Lets Race S@NL!!

Okay peeps!!

It's been great to have the feedback from both sides! Looks like we can summarise the situation down to two points:

1. A race with S@NL would provide vast incentive to boost our production and (active) membership
2. Now is not the best time for such a race.

Hehehe... well, whatever people feel comfortable about doing it, I'm happy with! 😀 I just raised the question because I'd never thought it had been considered as a genuine possibility recently on these forums.

I am very happy to see that most (if not all) our members support a race with S@NL at some point, it's just a question of timing. Maybe i'll raise the issue again closer to my birthday!! (Early June peeps!! 😉 Now I'm expecting a new SETI cracker from each and every one of you about then! 😀)

It's also great to see the enthusiasm from S@NL for such a race... hold your breaths folks, cos before the year's out, we're gonna have a real clash of the titans on our hands!

p.s. Baldy, you make some wise points. Thanks! 🙂

A race with S@N? your insane!😉 ,lets do it!😀............... ,but not for a while ,I agree with others about not hitting the other forums too often.

Meanwhile we can all do subtle recruiting simply by our presence in other forums sections ,that's assuming you have a link in your sig to at least 1 of the TA websites!

Looking through just this thread I see many members who have no links at all to TA (S@N members excluded😉)

This is lost recruiting!:Q ,why not put a link there? whichever your project ,
another thing is if other non DC members start seeing a lot more sigs with TA in it then they will realise that DC is quite a widespread activity & not a minority 'geek' thing 😉 ,this will make it more acceptable to some thus gaining us a few more members still🙂

hmm maybe I should start a new thread on this?

I don't know about you guys (and girls, if any), but S@NL is *very* willing to race your TeAm. So what's it going to be?? Are you up to the challenge?? Ready to bite the dust??

Grtz.

As much fun as another race would be, I would recommend waiting a bit longer for one main reason:

A big part of our success in the last race (if you can call it a race...I call it a bloodbath! 😉 ) was all the recruiting threads in the other forums. We'll be crucified by the other forum members if we start it all over again so soon. Remember how bi*chy they all got? We should give it some more time so we can do it right and get all the other forums involved again.

Hello my friend Black Biker, 🙂

As you can see by our open discussions, there is an eagerness for a race between our two teams. But Team AnandTech is really exhausted right now and even though I think a race would be a good thing for both S@N and TA and a lot of fun for both, we need to put it off until later in the year.

You can read the reasoning for this in this thread. TA is unique in that we, the SETI TEAM, share our forum with all of the other TA DC TEAMS. It makes for a shaky relationship at times and we have to spend a lot of effort just keeping the peace. 😉

AT has a lot of members that do not participate in the DC Projects. The MODS on the AT Forums have a tough time keeping things peaceful and wholesome for family participation. They will not tolerate another recruiting venture so soon and I doubt seriously if we would be able to recruit anywhere close to the numbers we would need to have a chance against such a formidable foe as S@N. We have just encroached on the other forums within TA for a two month period and our welcome is very thin at the moment.

However, if you and your fine group of Seti Searchers would be willing to wait until the later part of 2002, we would be glad and happy to engage you in a ?500,000 WU Sprint Race?. I would like to propose that there be NO RULES. The last race we had with DSLR was a real pain in the arse and the accounting was almost impossible to keep up with accurately. A no rules race would have only one stipulation ? no offsite hoarding of WUs before the race begins. Since we are both most honorable I am sure that will not be a problem. 🙂

TA is an association of ?Free Spirits? so any proposal that I or others make would have to have an open forum discussion and there would have to be a consensus of intention before any official race can be sanctioned. 🙂

Keeping things short:

I agree for the reasons listed above that it wouldnt be the wisest time to initiate another race.

Personally I am tired from wanting to put in 110% into SETI. Its nice not having to worry about PC number 'x' etc. I'm sure you know what I mean.

By far the largest incentive to hold off a major race would be to try and improve our relationship with the rest of the forum - since this IS a very decent forum indeed.

I'm all for a race with the S@N team but like many others I say we hold it off for a little while. We're not that far off finishing the race with DSLR and I think it's too soon to jump into another race. We don't want these races to become commonplace. I think that would detract from recruiting efforts.

You know, I'm positive that we will win this race..
With not much extra effort from you guys..
As soon as I know more, I will tell you ofcourse!
Or if you will keep an eye on the stats, you'll notice it soon enough..

S@NL will go down! 🙂
PS. Networkman, there won't be any problem between Cobra & me and S@NL..
I still post sometimes at their forum etc. This will only be great fun! For us at least..

<< You know, I'm positive that we will win this race.. >>

Well😀
that being said.......TeAm, Start you crunchers!!!

<< Or if you will keep an eye on the stats, you'll notice it soon enough.. >>

i'll be keeping my eyes on those stats.. 🙂

Well, ill be starting my rack soon. Gon'a start with 3 or 4 Epox 8k7a M/B And Probably xp 1800+, ill be ready for the race 🙂

Smoke, These 8k7a's overclock way better then the 8kha do, IMO. And there cheaper. My fairly new 8k7a and 1800 xp 1.53, is almost at 1.8, 2.05 vcore and watercooled. 😀

Like lane42, I'll be assembling a crackrack soon as well; I just have to settle on which board to use - the cpus will all be AMD XPs, generally 1600 to 1800 range. Except for the motherboards, I have nearly all of the other components, but this project has to compete with finishing the kitchen.

When we do race S@NL (in the future) I still have a copy of the Rules Of Engagement if that is the format you want to use for the race, but I have a feeling it isn't. I could edit them to reflect a new racing format and then post them to show when the time is right (such as my couterpart MgKnight did at DSLR).

So be ready and waiting. One of these days you may log in and see a post from me that could change things for S@NL and TA forever.😉

I'm for it! I'm about to tripple my output(well, that's what some say i can do) between double and triple....go team, i'll just keep crunching away regardless....

im up for the race later on ... i have switched from SETI to ECCp for awhile. since it should be coming to an end pretty soon. and because i got tired of the bandwidth prob. if the race does start. i will have my tiny little fleet (if you can call it that) swithced back over to SETI

cheese out...

I willing to go for it in a litlle while! 🙂

Maybe a month or so. And instead of banging the forums, why don't we try to get
the participation of the current members UP!

From what I gather in Soni's Stats, we're only at 28%. 😱
Pushing that up to around 40% should be good to take on S@NL. 😀

That's just my view on it.
