The only Subway sub in question was the BMT, which is a pile of meat and cheese. Of course it's not healthy :p
They do have healthy options.

Balance is key. Go for whole grains like oatmeal, whole wheat toast, whole grain cereal (like kashi go lean crunch), and egg for breakfast (alternate) and add a fruit like a banana or some berries, whatever fruit you like. You can even have some bacon (2 slices) but make sure most of the fat is drained. Drink some milk (soy milk if you like it) or some orange juice, and you've got a healthy breakfast (I like to drink green tea also).

For lunch, go with a sandwich (lean meats, real cheese, whole grain bread, some lettuce and tomato), and eat some carrots or a fruit/vegetable of your choice.

For dinner, I would go with either fish or chicken, baked or broiled with olive oil, some spinnach or broccoli (boiled not raw with a pinch of salt), and brown rice.

Drink plenty of water (6-8 glasses a day), and feel free to change or add to my basic menu, as there are a lot of healthy subsititutes. Stay away from foods with trans fats (hydrogenated or partially hydrogenated crap) or anything that has been processed or refined. Frying is bad in general, and olive oil (extra virgin) is healthiest and adds flavor. All veggies and fruits are good (vary in color) and help keep you feeling full. Work out at least every other day (30 mins cardiovascular, 15 mins weight training) and you'll lose 15 lbs in a year (I did freshman year) rather than gaining.

Awesome, thanks for the informative post.

I've been eating a lot of those "weight watchers" frozen dinners, whole wheat sandwiches, cereal, salad, fruit, etc. Trying to cut out soft drinks now. Just trying to find some meals that will leave me full but healthy.

Gotta work out when I get time.

oh, i'm just dying to see this evidence. PLEASE post it so i can evaulate it and edit this post.

How do you not have time in college to work out?

he's got a life or he's studying. Its a choice he's made. I'm lucky enough to have the time to do club ultimate frisbee. It keeps me busy with my other stuff but its a load of fun while staying in shape.

Oatmeal, eggs, cereal, orange juice, broccoli, beans, grapes, carrots, turkey, chicken, tuna, yogurt, rice

Pretty much go to the grocery store, and learn how to cook, it's not hard, tastes good, and is good for you.

(refrain from buying "meals ready to go" they usually have preservatives and bad stuff)

And if you are really cheap, get the 2 lb boxes of great value macaroni and either make a sauce or buy Ragu.

Also, don't buy margarine, get butter.

If you wanna get inspired, go to cooks.com or watch the food channel (i like GoodEats)

Seriously, just get healthy choice if you aren't cooking for anyone. I like to cook, and when I do its usually something nutritious, like baked chicken and a salad or something, but for one person, it hardly makes any sense for me to waste 30 mins cooking/prepping and 15 mins doing dishes. Healthy choice takes 6 minutes to heat up and 6 seconds to throw away the package :D
