Pentium M, Core, and Core 2 were all designed in Israel. Older designs were generally designed in Santa Clara, CA (i486, Pentium), or Oregon (P6).
Intel has
fabs all over the world, including some in Israel and some in the US. AMD has fabs in Dresden, Germany, only.
Dude, Intel is populated with Indians and Chinese people.
But on a serious note, America is good at:
- Military
- Wide availability and wide selection of products (do you know how hard it is to buy cars in other countries? Cars are dirt cheap in the US and you can get pretty much ANYTHING). In other nations you either buy domestic cars or you're screwed. If they don't have plants in your country, you're screwed. Toyota has plants in Taiwan so that is why you don't see as many Civics/Accords as you do Camrys/Corollas (it's like a 10:1 ratio if you just stare down the street).
- CHEAP ELECTRONICS! Dell's sales alone can pwn anyone. You think Taiwan is the home of motherboards? At best the prices match Newegg, but Slickdeals/Fatwallet is American! You can't get that anywhere else
- Education - How many foreigners want to come here for education all the time? Yeah. There you go. World class education FTW! Ok, I didn't mean like K-12 because clearly we struggle, but in terms of Universities, we rock.
Honestly, a lot of innovation in this country is pioneered by the foreign engineers who immigrate here. Look at Silicon Valley and if you work around here, tell me how many Indian engineers you have and how many Chinese engineers you have. It's absurd. I'd like to say America's good at these things, but honestly it's not an inherent quality of America. That's why we see outsourcing, and so I cannot say that Intel and AMD and all that are awesome because they're American.
Sports is pretty awesome though IMO. I know that the world loves soccer, but sometimes the love and the passion in college football seems to blow that all away. In terms of professional sports, we're ok, but seeing the college view of things is just amazing.
