Yes, I get it. I can't see cars that are behind cars behind me. Can you?

When I merge into the left lane, and then someone else who was behind a car behind me in the middle lane also does, I'm already passing. That's my question.

I am NOT talking about cutting someone off in the left lane or pulling into the left lane knowing that you are driving slower than other cars around you in that lane when you pull in.
Okay, if that is the case then yeah, just speed up and get over like DrunkenSano said.

What's this pass on the left???? Idiots here in Toronto drive below the speed limit it the passing lane. So barely ever experience the situation above. But as mentioned by many, you should have seen the speeder in the left lane, so you should never have gone to pass car in the center lane.

Slow down? You're 20km over limit, that is 3pt. I know I know everyone doing at least 120km/h bah bah.

I used to drive 120-130, but the last few yrs I slowed down to 100-110 and it save me a lot of gas. It also a lot safer.

Read the OP quickly and skipped all the responses, but assuming I don't have the kids in the car, and hopefully there is a little bit of traffic on the road, and depending on my mood and the phase of the moon -- torment the impatient SOB behind me for a while.

😛

Actually, I if I'm at 74 and the person in front of me is 73, I'd just adjust the cruise control and drop it to 73 and maintain lane position instead of making using the left lane to pass.

This.

I'm not gonna bother passing someone doing 1 mph faster than me when we're already well over the limit.

But, if I am gonna pass, I'm gonna do it quickly so as to not hold anyone else up. The roads in this city are too busy, no need to add extra congestion.

Nobody is obligated to do anything. I could drive 40 in the left lane all day if I wanted to.

1) Speed up
2) Your signaling should start before you make the lane change. If the guy behind you seems intent to pass despite your signaling, let him go. If both of you change lanes simultaneously, finish your lane change and let them decide what option to take.

If you are being pressured from behind during a Pass, start signaling a lane change before you completely pass the vehicle. That way the driver directly behind you knows that you will be moving out of the way.

if you are gonna drive like an asshole, you have to be prepared to run into someone who is a bigger asshole
You don't know for sure why the other driver is in a hurry. Sure, he most likely is just an asshole but for all you know his wife or kid is bleeding out in the back seat. Get the fuck out of the way or apply to be a cop if you want to start enforcing traffic laws.

Here you drive based on how bad the pot holes are, and not the traffic or the law.

"Yes officer I was swerving all over the road, but I was trying to avoid all the pot holes."
"Fair enough, drive safely, no ticket"

In scenario 1, I'd wonder how I was stupid enough to not notice I was pulling in font of someone going faster than me.

im im driving 75 passing someone who is driving 70, in a 65 MPH zone, im not gonna speed up even more because someone feels the need to go even faster. they can wait the 3 seconds for me to get around them

Of course, it's totally within your rights to be a shitty driver impeding traffic.

Fuckhead speeder can wait till I've completed my pass at the speed I felt was safe. Nobody is going to dictate how fast I drive.

The missing variable I experience in these situations is usually the dork in the middle lane who was doing 5 under when I went to pass him wakes up and speeds up. Drive me nuts. Usually I will just drop back and get behind them again only to repeat the process a few mile up the road. Some people just can't maintain a constant speed.
