Lets help our men and women in Iraq

No matter what you think of the political aspects of the war, let's do what we can to help the men and women fighting for us.
anysoldier.com is a legit site I have used to send soldiers personal items they need. Please check it out, and help our fighting men and women.

Please add other sites as needed.

edit: Mod, Thanks for the sticky.
edit: No political debating in this thread please.

What aircooled said: No political debating here upon pain of vacation.

Bulk quantities of religious materials contrary to the Islamic faith.

Why?
American servicemen are expected to respect the wishes of host countries they are residing in. Unlike what you'd be beholden to think, U.S. soldiers are known as a pretty polite bunch that have a good reputation for paying for any damage they might inadvertently cause overseas.

because then they'll think we are out to convert them. People out there beleive that Bush is out to gain "followers"? Imagine if news networks over there got ahold of that peice of informatin and started to spread it. Right now you got Iraqis fighitng against us bbecause they want their freedom, although you got some imams running around saying its a crusade. Now imagine if EVERYONE beleived that.

Right now stability is THE KEY FACTOR, and that should be the number one priority- the problem comes when you start to decide, "should we show al jazeera because its inflaming the population?" and "should we allow mass distrobution of religious material that may create the situation to get 100 times worse" and considering the government in Iraq has already banned al-jazeera, its obvious enough what the answer to this should be for now.

Nice site. Hope people are able to put aside their political differences and send something to support the the troops, either through this site or some other side like it.

Great sight and thanks for posting it. I am in the military on active duty and support our troops no matter what.

The military forces are simply doing a job that they have been ordered to do. We all think tha same and many of those who serve do no agree but continue to do there job. All of us in the military receive orders from above. It is the politician who gives the orders to be carried out, and those orders filter down the chain of command.

I thought that a post like this one would be a better response from everyone?

My wife has sent about 4 boxes so far and a few mailers with all of my more recent Autoweek magazines in them. I need to hunt through the stuffed animal cache in the basement for more to send. 😀

Indeed. The soldiers are doing it because it is their duty, not because they like it or dislike it.

Yeah, it's the politicians and top brass who should take the blame when starting unnecessary wars and for the screw ups that happen as a result of their decisions. Not the soldiers who are doing their job.

As did I...But sadly some people here obviously don't care as much as they claim.

I guess this doens't really need an 'up' anymore.

Is there still a group sending donated laptops overseas for soldiers? I looked through the site briefly and didn't see any mention of it. Maybe they've got 'enough' now. Isolation from family and friends has to be a concern for soldiers overseas, and I thought it was a pretty good program (may get a new lappy soon, so I might have one to donate).

I agree! Support our troops, even if you don't support the cause they're fighting for.

Those are American citizens fighting for their lives over there - regular Janes and Joes like you and me, stuck inbetween a rock and a hard place 🙁.

*10 bucks donated, because I'm a poor college kid.

Keep in mind that no pornography is permitted as well.

In the Islamic culture, fitness magazines are considered porn.

If you try to ship them, you risk your whole shipment being confiscated.

I dont see why people have to go to a website to help a soldier. We have 2 soldiers overseas from our church and we sent they 2 boxes and christmas cards to cheer them up. Most people know someone who has a relative overseas or works with someone who has a relative overseas in the armed forces. Instead of the power of one go together at work and send someone a giftbox to show that you care. If you just sent him a card saying how much you appreciate him that would be great.

I encourage everyone to support the soldiers who are serving in Iraq. This is a tought time for them up to this election and probably immediately following it.

This thread was stickied for a reason. There will be no more political points made in this thread.
The next person to do so will be given a vacation. Make your points in any non-stickied thread, but not here.

Even though this is the holidays, don't let that that stop you from sending items afterwards if you cannot do it now. I know we all spend so much $$$ on our families and friends during the season that it's hard to come up with extra funds for charities, etc.. well the soldiers would be just as happy to see items of need/want in January, February, March, etc, than anytime. I plan on sending things after the holidays myself.

Want To Help Our Troops?

Read The Heart of America while you are there.
Feeling an immediate connection to the girl, I radioed that we were going to stop. The rest of the convoy paused and I got out the make sure she was OK. The little girl looked scared and concerned, but there was a warmth in her eyes toward me. As I knelt down to talk to her, she moved over and pointed to a mine in the road.

She saved the soldiers. That was very brave of her.

Hehe, I know that where I'm at wouldn't mind another laptop. We're down to 2 shared laptops. Oh, and to people sending Anysoldier mail. Pass the urge to send small travel stuff.

Buy like a 6 pack of deodorant, or a package of Mach-3 blades, or big bags of combos, or a 5000 q-tip carton, or a 24 pack of AA's. My mind is drawing a blank on other popular smaller stuff. Maybe some newer magazines or movies.
