most 965 mobo cant get pass 360fsb ... also 975 boards r buggy as hell, but my GA 965 DS3 is com'n. i think im getting one more board and thats it RD600

My Planned Conroe Rig: (Gonna try to get it for Christmas if I can, if not, then in March).

Motherboard: I'll probably get something that has lots of good reviews on newegg.com and has good features. A gigabyte mobo that will be upgradable to Quad Cores would be cool, so I'm considering that one.

CPU: I'll probably spring for the E6600. I'm not going to overclock.

Which one of those should I get?

Video Card: PowerColor Radeon X1900XT(Already have).

Power Supply: PC Power and Cooling 510-SLI

OS: Windows XP Home Edition(I already have it).

It's probably going to cost around $700-850 at the final price, depending on the Ram and mobo I get. I am firmly standing on the E6600, though.

It's going to replace a single core S939 Athlon 64 3500+ and 2 gigs of PC2700 ram. I was considering a S939 Athlon 64 X2 4600+ for $300 after the price cuts, but when I saw how good Conroe was, I threw that plan away, for now at least.

How big of a difference will I see from going to the E6600 from my 3500+ and PC2700 ram?

How faster will the E6600 load windows? My 3500+ takes like 15-25 seconds or so to load windows.

I got a Maxtor 80GB 2MB Cache from May of 2002 as my main hard drive with Windows XP on it and a Seagate 160GB 8MB cache in my computer, if that affects anything.

Well, everyone has their own reasons.. but mine is rooted in the desire to not build a new computer or do lots of upgrading every 6 months (or less) or every year. At any given point in time, it's generally good to get what's just a bit less than the bleeding-edge. In other words, you don't get the CPU that's the most expensive (not counting the Core2 Extreme), you get the one that's just below it. The cost savings are considerable and the performance difference isn't. It's a pure bang-for-the-buck scenario.

E6600 draws a balance between performance and price.

If you are on a budget as you partially are, I would suggest E6300/E6400 unless you can squeeze in a E6600.

Latest test show that the E6600 is highly overclockable. That's the only reason why so many of us is jumping on the that ship. 2.4 -> 3.5 on air is very tempting. Some cores even shot up to the 4 ghz zone. We will see as more home users have the 6600 on hands.

ill most likely be going with the 6700 unless i can justify the 6800's masive price diffrence.

Probably the newest Nforce MB.

I am still about 4-6 months off from even considering building it so things can change.

I will probably never build a conroe, cause I don't plan on building another system for at least a year or so, by then it will probably be a kentsfield or k8l

I didn't know there was so much interest in the 2.4GHz Conroe. I may have to reserve one so that they aren't all taken when I'm ready to buy.

So here goes:
E6600
ASUS nForce 590 MoBo
2X Nvidia 7900 GT's
2X Raptor 150GB's in Raid 0
3X Seagate barracuda 750GB HDD in Raid 1+0
Corsair 2GB Ram best OC(able) I can get.
PC P & C 850 Watts
Big Tower to put it all in.

How I plan to Overclock.
I have a method that I can Water cool below 0C without Phase change
I've seen Water Blocks for Mem, North and South Bridges and HDD And of course CPU's and GPU's
parts in order of circuit

CPU block(1 Inlet/2 Outlet)
Water Pump___WaterPump
GPU block_____GPU block
North Bridge___South Bridge
Mem Block_____Mem block
Raptor________Raptor
Barracuda_____Barracuda
Y-Block with temp. probe
Reservoirs and Chiller
then back to CPU
this route would cool the CPU first and split the path into two which maybe the Pumps could be dynamically loaded to help silence the system. and should balance everything to limit hot spots

Use Thermaltake's liquid that it non-conductive and good down to -9C
my plan would be able to remove up to 640 Watts of heat from the system but that is scalable up or down

Other than a 120mm Fan in the side of my case to cool the Voltage regulators what else would be needed to cool the MoBo and reach my Goal of 5Ghz .

I realize that this may be overkill, but am fasinated by Phase change but wary of some of its shortcomings like mainly that it only cools that CPU.
I'm not sure if I want to get into how I can cool think system below ambient but I am pretty sure it doable. Just really Complicated.
I am new to water cooling and really am insterested if anyone has tried this before.

Does anyone Watercool their Mem and Chipsets or HDD's etc,,,,

Maybe...Since I dont have the conreo yet I may wait until i know it is coming....483 is more then I need but at least makes me think the mobo may not be my limitations...

I am going high end air first, and may go water if I think UI can irk more out of it...
