Let's have a thread for all the Veterans to step forward and take a bow.

Since Veterans Day is coming up I think all the veterans, past and present, should be given the opportunity to show their pride.

I'm proud, HappyPuppy.

Thanks and appreciation for our Vets from the moderators and staff of AnandTech Forums.

I meant this for all military personnel, past/present, combat/ non-combat, draftee/reservist. This is for all those who have or are serving their country.

Yeah the folks don't get enough respect. Only on the boards where vets hang out do I ever see rememberence posts.

We've had 2 days in the past week or so and nary a mention of it anywhere except where these guys are 🙁

10/31 was the sinking of the Reuben James (1941). First attack on a US ship in WWII. Killed 115 sailors.

Today (well, I guess yesterday, the 8th of 42) were the invasions of the Salomon Islands and Algeria.

Everyone brings up the Hiroshima and Nagasaki, but no one ever brings up Guadalcanal which happened during the same dates only a couple of years earlier, and believing to be the defining point in the war in which power shifted to the allies.

And they only get recognition one day of the year 🙁

Major thanks to the folks back then, and now to what they have done. Some folks still read about the past and appreciate what was done 🙂

I'm not a vet, but I thank them very much for making my world a safer & better place.

I'm not a vet. I hope to be someday, but thanks to all of you who served. You guys take so much crap from everyone, but I have the utmost respect for all of you.

I off around noon to my father's birthday party. He's 74 on the 13th. A veteran and my brother will be there. He served in Desert Storm/Shield and spent 18 years in the Reserves/Guard.

My next door neighbor served in Vietnam and in Africa attached to the CIA. HE has some stories!

We have so much to be thankful for. Thank a VET!

Hey, just want to say thanks to all the great men and women who serve to keep us all free 🙂

Well, this particular vet appreciates the sentiment.

I still think you who were civilians, out there paying the taxes (and in turn our salaries), raising your families, making the country work, living the American dream, you're the real heros. A rifle and rucksack is a pretty light load to carry in comparison to a single mom working 3 jobs to try to raise her kids to be good, honest citizens. That's the tougher job by far.

I simple "thank you" means a lot, I still remember the first time someone said thank you to me. I had been in about 2 years already and was home on leave at a flower shop getting some flowers for my mom's birthday. The Clerk said, "Thank you" after learning I was a Marine. It meant a lot.

November 10th is coming up!! Happy Birthday Marines!
