I think I'll contribute the thread fiasco. Does anyone have a good explanation as to the exact mission that our troops will have in west Africa? What will the National Guard be doing to augment what the Marines are doing? Why wouldn't we send more CDD/NIH workers instead?

We probably don't have enough CDC/NIH workers. Budget cuts would dictate that.

The military has had budget cuts too, ya know? Soldiers are getting pink slips and contracts for ROTC have been cut way back.

Allegedly, Obama want to allow illegals to enlist. Let's do that and send them over to help.

Well lets just imagine if the democrats had full control of the governmant, vs republicans.
Just for a moment, lets play the game of "what if" or lets pretend (my favorite game btw).

Democrats would expand Obamacare simply to allow more citizens healthcare and health education for such threats as Ebola. Democrats would vote and approve our national HHS secretary. Democrats would vote to fund and expand national health services, and probably also vote in place new government crisis response facilities nation wide.
Pretty common sense stuff like that.

So, what would a republican controlled government do?
Anyone's guess...
But... considering old reliable Ronnie Reagan and his response to the AIDS crisis, we probably have a good idea how a republican government would react.

1st.... Blame same sex marriage for the wrath of God.
2nd... Have a national day of prayer.
3rd... Deport everyone with a fever.
4th... The Rapture. Got to include the impending Rapture.
5th... Repeal Obamacare. Replace with free Tylenol for everyone.
6th... Appoint Donald Trump as head of the national health czar.
7th... No need for a 7th. Everyone is now dead from Ebola.

November 4th. Just weeks away. :D

You've convinced me to go vote. I'm picking every republican on the ballot, mostly for state issues. Thanks for being the deciding force of insanity.

Listening to Rick Perry presser. What an ass.

1. Blame the CDC for letting the infected nurses fly but ignore Texas hospital for discharging Duncan when he told them he just came from Liberia and he was still sick.

2. Take the easy route of calling for travel ban while not dealing with the more complicated reasons for not having a ban.

3. Hey y'all I made a task force to handle Ebola after the fact.

You were and are as uninformed on any of this as Perry was. The only guy who seems to have a clue in any of this is the head of the CDC, who is lightyears ahead of all his political handlers in how to approach this. Perry is dumb, but to attack him on this would be as dumb for me to do as it would be to do the same to Obama. Simply put no politician is prepared intellectually, professionally, or educationally to deal with these situations. That is impossible even in an apolitical nation, and we're about the last on the list nations for political hactivism.

If Perry is going to blame the Feds while silently absolving the Texas hospital he should STFU.

Notice how Republicans almost to a person have gotten behind the travel ban. Simplistic solution to make people fell good while at the same time pretending to do something. Also position themselves on the opposite side of Obama.

Remember when Republicans were bitching about the travel ban in/out of Israel when missiles were flying through the air??

Yeah...sure.

Let's see, here's a smattering of the wasteful spending going on at the NIH.

Almost $700K spent on why gay men in Peru get Syphilis.

$2 million spent to encourage old people to join choirs.

It goes on and on and that's what's been discovered so far. Almost $40 million and growing.

http://freebeacon.com/issues/396433...ng-that-could-have-gone-to-the-ebola-vaccine/

And then there's the $25 million in bonuses paid. These are the things that we know of now. Then the brain dead left piss and moan about budget cuts. The horror, the horror.

Wonder how much the US spent to give black men in the country syphilis?

Is that germane to this thread? I know 'germane' is a big word and you probably don't know what it means but we can wait while you find out.

The problem with the screening process at the airports if that they are looking for people with a slight fever. Most people who develop a slight fever will take a Tylenol or some sort of aspirin to reduce the fever, and thus they can travel where ever they want undetected by airport security personal. Why would they want to chance infect thousands of people by coming to the US? Because treatment for Ebola is the best here in the US. What would you do, stay in West Africa and surely die, or find a way into the US.

"Sources earlier told NBC News that eight engineers and logistical specialists from the Guard, both active-duty and reservists, would probably be included in the first deployment. They are expected to help build 17 Ebola treatment centers, with 100 beds apiece."

Can you tell me any other organization in the U.S. that has the capabilities for rapid deployment of health care related infrastructure that the military has? I seriously doubt the CDC/NIH or any other medical specific organization has the manpower, material or anything else in the quantities needed to put up hospitals, clinics, etc. within days of receiving a request/order for deployment.

Remember, the military has mobile hospitals all packed and ready to move.....no other singular nor combination of organizations has that capability. And the Marines would probably be the least capable of supplying enough inventory and personnel as the Marines are one of our smallest services, which is why the Army is almost always used or contemplated being used for situations like this.

The science thingy is hard. I noticed that the exact dollar amount was in the title and I immediately knew it would be witch hunt time. It never would occur to some people that an institute of health would study health issues? "I don't understand it so it must be waste". Not only that, but looking at a couple things used let to the completely unsurprising fact that what I saw was misrepresented. The amounts cited? Your company probably spent more money trying to figure out how to fire you. Then we hear complaints about 8 million " outsourced". Well hell that's dirt cheap. You don't go down to the local Dollar Store and find reagents and equipment. That amount wouldn't cover a tiny college science department. The total costs of developing an Ebola vaccine is much more, 2 maybe even 3 F-22 Raptor's worth. Yet this person who apparently completely unencumbered by understanding hopes to convince us by misleading with ignorance, a complete lack of understanding, and a bizarre obsession with figures down to the last dollar.

No, I'm not impressed.

I wouldn't expect you to be impressed at all because you're too intelligent to feel that the flubbed response to Ebola hitting our shores is due to funding issues at the NIH. My post was for the dummies that bought the progressive left talking points wholly without putting any thought into it. In other words, I am attempting to communicate with them on a level they are able to comprehend. They think simply, I give them simple rebuttals.

The actual reason the response has been lacking is that the current administration sees Ebola not as a health issue, but a political issue. No surprise there as everything to them has political facets to be utilized in an advantageous manner. It's how our government operates these days. The big picture necessitates domination of the political system and the total control that comes with it. How it affects the overwhelming majority is worthy of little consideration.

Ebola is just another crisis to not waste.

Until Obama decided to reward Biden's election coach I thought he did a fair job of making this a non political issue. In his defense (something I wouldn't do unless I thought there was reason), the Republicans decided to make this a huge political issue and haven't to my knowledge suggested any remedial actions other than "lock the border" and blame Obama and anything government related. I have to say that's about as annoying as the Apologist and Perrybot. We have this stunningly ill informed partisan making his remarkable ignorance known. I'm not much impressed by most partisans and he fits the bill.

Frankly the system is so broken I wouldn't trust politicians in general to fix a flat tire.

My favorite was "boots on the ground" to fight ebola. Had a vision of a The Magic School Bus with 4000 troops shrunk and shooting it out with evil ebola inside patients.
