Along the lines of my Let's Get Fired! thread, the VP comes and tells someone this, "When HE comes in, tell him to move his trashcan...I already told him several times about it". I met him at the datacenter today because wehave guests and he says I need to tuck in my shirt. Then says I should keep my hair shorter.

MUTHAFACVLKER NNEDS TO LEAVE ME THE FVCK ALONE!!

Firstly the shirt is one of those long sleeve casuals they sell at A&F or AE, which I was wearing over bananarepublic khakis, NOT meant to be tucked in. Secondly, the janitors clean out the trash and then re-place the can wherever it is convenient(usually at the edge of the door). I am not the janitor and i cannot be the trashcan-guard to make sure it ends up at the position where HE wants it to be. So we have important clients coming in today, I seriously doubt they give a flying fvk where the trashcan is and whether my shirt is tucked.

I had a talk with the CEO about him. I have had it reporting to this dude.

What I wore...except my shirt is untucked. 3quarter trench jacket over buttoned collared shirt and khakis.

You suck. If your employer requires that your shirt be tucked in, don't wear a shirt that's not meant to be tucked in. How hard is that? Presentation is everything, whether it be with new clients, higher-ups in the company, or potential new employees. If you see something that needs to be fixed, don't wait for someone else to fix it. STFU and fix it. If you know your boss is going to complain about something, don't be a bump on a log. FIX IT.

If a subordinate did an end run on me over policy issues - the subordinate would be sure to remain a subordinate for the duration of his/her career with me as a boss. I'd warn future bosses within the company as well. If someone does not like me - they need to tell me to my face. Maybe then I can sit down and explain to them what is important.

I had a young lady do that to me when I was a purchasing manager of a casino. She was a clerk and did not like some of my policies. She was gutsy though and laid it in my face after carefully researching the matter. Turned out she was right about alot of things - I went with her to my higher ups and we got some policies changed - and the others I explained to her why they were necessary. Later I recommended her for my assistant - and she later became a manager at another casino.

Had she end runned me - she would have been on a nogo list as far as I would've been concerned.

Just one example.

Psh. Rules. Read them. Follow them. Don't bitch when someone calls you on it when you get caught breaking them. How'd your boss know to bitch at you for a shirt that wasn't tucked in if he couldn't see if you were even wearing a full buttoned up jacket anyway?

Is it that hard to move a trash can? If your boss likes a certain trash can in a certain position and you know the janitorial staff is too stupid to put it back where it was, then move it yourself when you see it out of place. Is that so hard?

It's not about bending over, it's about learning to anticipate. Anticipate your boss having a bad day because things don't go the way he thinks they should, and fix it. If you don't, you'll end up a disgruntled employee who walks around wearing a formal buttoned up jacket and a magic shirt that only his boss can see and get pissed off at people on the internet who call you a moron when you are a moron.

Does your company allow you to come to work with your shirt untucked?

Last company I worked at allowed you to wear whatever you want except when guests are in the office, then you have to dress professionally.

slycat---- Here's a scenario for you.................... You get a job working outside. You complain about the sun burning you.................... ADIOS!
Quit the job if it does'nt fit you. If you don't want to tuck your shirt in, go to a burger joint! Then again, they're pretty strict too **LOL**

There are no rules. I am NOC, there are no dress codes. Now i see 3 other people around me with their shirt tucked out and some wearing those down sport jackets. Mine is at least a formal buttoned up jacket from Bananarepublic. What he has problems with i dun fvkin know. Yes, he saw the insides of my jacket coz before the guests arrived i unbuttoned to go to the restroom. And yes, or NO, i am not gonna be the trashcan monitor. Fvckin he can do it himself if he needs it moved 2feet away. Also, i drove back to the office after finishing up at the dc, he arrived first so there was no way for me to 'correct' it to please him. Me, the moron? Well, if it means i have to do those things his way, then so be it. He can kiss my ass.

I have gone through 2 other previous Vps in the company, they never had the complains against me.

Ignore everyone else, just worry about you. If there aren't any rules, politely point him to the employee handbook and ask him to point out where it requires you to tuck in your shirt. Case closed. While I agree that HE should be the one, ultimately, to move the damn trash can if he's too picky about that kinda thing, but you're obviously way too upset by the issue. You can easily avoid his criticism by doing it yourself.

Instead of doing anything about your problems, you're just bitching on the net. I'm just busting your balls about it, man; don't take it seriously. :)

Everyone ASSumes what the VP is saying is policy... Not every chief, even a VP, gets to change policies, like say... DRESS CODE.

That's one of the few policies almost every company has. Companies have policies so each and every chief doesn't invent stupid rules for their indians and each indian recieves fair treatment. Creating policies for 1 (one) person that don't seem to apply to their peers invites the question, why are you discriminating against this employee? You see where this is going...

This is one reason why companies have policies.

So the question is: What is your company dress code? If you have a NOC, you have a policy on dress code...

The trash can is one of those things you pretty much gotta suck up, your boss is being an ass about it. Maybe ask the janitoral staff to place it where they got it from (not easy, I know).

So you're basically gayer than Ross the intern for wearing something like that.

No, you don't. At least not very professional. You're not in high school anymore, quit shopping at Abercrombie. :)
