Ok, this is a different spin on normal trivia games, but this is based on different things in the world of operating systems. Windows, Linux, Mac, etc.

I'll start off with the first one.

OS: Linux
Question: User logs into their shell, open their mail program and it says "Error: Mailbox must have 1777 protection" then flips to "Mailbox Vulnerable". What is the fix for this?

Oh oh ... install exchange so you get "Error: Virus spreading protection" or was that "Error: Virus spreading feature", I keep getting them confused.

I'll give you a hint. It has to do with the /var/mail directory and the files in it.
Uh, maladroit already gave the answer. Unless you mean "what exactly do you type"...

Opps. Didn't see that. My bad. Yes, he's right.

Ok, how about this:

OS: Windows
Question: What is the fastest way to delete a file? (it's not what you think.)

the 1777 makes no sense. you don't want to give it 777 permissions, and it can't be a umask, because then permissions would be 000. the permissions need to be 600, and owned by the user.

edit: and to clarify, i'm talking about the user's mailbox, at /var/mail/<username>.

for example:

ls -l /var/mail/

-rw------- 1 death users 5121 Feb 5 02:00 death
-rw------- 1 mack users 61091 Feb 5 02:14 mack

and this is a unix question fewl, linux is only one of many os's where this situation would/could occur.

And then an accepted answer that is jsut a restatement of the question.
Q: "My car needs a new alternator, how do I fix it?"
A: "Put a new alternator in it"
