People like that should lose their licenses. They obviously aren't responsible enough to be trusted with cars.

that's stupid to do but I'll admit the burnout on the highway and stopping the traffic was kinda funny

Fucking hillbilly morons. Yes, redundant. I know. They should all lose their licenses. There's nothing funny about any of that. They all acted in a careless and reckless manner.

Fucking retards. Too bad nobody plowed into the moron in the Vette who lost control and did a 360 in the middle of the road.

These assholes should all have their cars turned into giant paperweights right in front of their faces and be banned from operating any sort of motorized vehicle or heavy machinery for life.

If you're going to be a fucking retard, do it where you aren't putting other people's LIVES at risk.

That's not "street racing" in the sense of a little impromptu e-peen contest at a light. Condemn and demonize balls out organized street racing on public roads all you want, because nobody supports that, not even car enthusiasts. But be careful on how you define "street racing" and be wary of ambiguous laws and penalties.

Everyone here has casually and spontaneously put the pedal down at one point or another, I don't care what kind of vehicle you drive. I've seen posts here with the most adamant of anti-street racing and 100% safety obsessed posters bragging about waxing some ricer in a stock Maxima or mini van or similar. The problem is when the two are equated to being the same thing, and simply out accelerating or passing someone because your car is better becomes glorified Hollywood street racing. So keep that in mind next time you aggressively or defensively pass someone, you are technically "street racing" and subject to your own standards even if you weren't exceeding the posted speed.

What is shown here is just flat out stupidity and complete lawlessness. You do that kind of shit in a back alley road or underpass so unused it has weeds growing through the asphalt, not in the middle of a busy highway.

However, should someone who "chirps a tire" or who accelerates to a merge quickly to avoid being cut off be classified with these idiots? These days all you need to be charged with "street racing" is a nice car CAPABLE of doing these things and to be seen moving away from another car.

If you're doing fishtails while merging onto busy roads, loosing control, and/or doing excessive burnouts you should definitely be classified with these idiots.

Definitely. But people have been accused of "burning out" and "losing control" and had their cars impounded for "street racing" because of tire chirps and spirited driving, when they never fishtailed or created any smoke or crossed any lines.

eg: when I take off enthusiastically and chirp before backing off and short shifting to second, it's seen in places like CA as unconditionally equal to what is shown here.

Much the same way that anti-terror laws are a slippery slope that are being used against American citizens, the way that merely being in possession of your keys while intoxicated is automatically driving under the influence, etc.

How do you know? Because someone on the intarweb told you so?

I did a burn out down a side street once a few years ago in Hermosa Beach, CA. Cop pulled me over for it, had me do a couple quick field sobriety tests, gave me a ticket for failing to signal my right turn and told me he could have written me up for exhibition of speed and then he sent me on my way.

Another time I was on the freeway after having my car tuned up and new tires, I was doing about 75mph and dropped from 5th down to 3rd and romped on the gas (this was in my old Mustang GT). CHP Officer pulled immediately up behind me with lights flashing. I pulled over and he came up to the passenger side window, laughing, and said, "What were you thinking? Didn't you see me right there beside you?" I said, "Honestly, no, you must have been in my blindspot." I explained that I was just stretching the legs of my car since I had just had a bunch of work done. He gave me a ticket for going 75 in a 65 zone...went to traffic school for that one.

Then again, I don't have giant wings, a fart can exhaust, and stickers all over my cars either.

Neither do I, and I've never been pulled over for anything either because I don't do stupid shit at the wrong place at the wrong time. How long ago was all that? The popular media demonizing of performance cars and street racing and associated laws and increasingly harsher penalties is a fairly recent trend.

Just doing my duty of speaking out against expansion of government power and intrusion into daily lives from the perspective of an enthusiast who has to be wary of blanket laws that negatively impact 99.9% of the population because of what 0.1% idiots cause.

All it would take for me is a little tire chirp, blower whine, or exhaust noise for some tree hugging cop who drives a Prius off duty to have a personal grudge and be able to nail me for street racing some day because of vague blanket laws arisen through public ignorance and obsession with safety when they see shit like this on TV.

Tell me if you were a cop that you wouldn't go out of your way to LOOK for some excuse to throw the book out at every lifted SUV you saw, even if they weren't actually doing anything wrong, just because of your own personal biases. Cops and judges are human beings and are influenced by media and culture as well.
