While interesting, discussing the UK monarchy between US citizens and UK subjects is kind of like discussing issues related to guns. We just don't speak the same language when it comes to these subjects, each side having lived under that system since birth.

Yes. Having grown up learning about the Revolutionary War there probably aren't many (any?) Americans that have warm-fuzzies in regard to Monarchies. The UK seems to like their Monarchy. They have one, we don't, this arrangement seems to work well for everyone.

Now I'm royally confused, are we talking about the monarchy or are we talking about agriculture?

Could you come back and post using English definitions instead of DIY ones.

You are confused because you have succumbed to peasdant-complex. I am sorry.

Again you're using your own language, I'm too used to using the English language. Do you have a name for your language? Maybe a dictionary? Or are you trying to discuss agriculture with me?

If you have succumbed to the peasant-complex, then you won't understand. It's like asking early humans why the sun is to be worshipped.

peasant != subject. There is a difference between the two, I think that is what Hal9000 is trying to point out to you. For someone so obsessed with the issue, I would think you might want to use the correct terms.

Amrite Hal9000?

That could be very easily resolved. The crown estate belongs to the monarchy as an institution, it is not the private property to be disposed of by the individual royal family members. It should be easy to implement new legal mechanisms to remove the necessary lands from royal ownership.

Part of the agreement whereby the royal family get paid the civil list is the bit where they give up control of the crown estate. This agreement is signed every year. We could stop paying the civil list but then full ownership of the crown estate goes back to them.

Edit: actually I think the agreement is signed by each monarch not each year.

Nope. The Crown Estate is not and has never been the personal property of the current UK royals.

Yeah it's owned by the living Gods that we refer to as the Royal family, *we are not worthy*

Just fucking tell him the difference between a peasant and a subject, you two always end up here, but I never see you correcting the difference.

I've told him before about 5 times, I've quoted dictionary references, he's not getting it, he likes to use words the way he likes to use them. Makes no sense to anyone else, he's obsessed with farming.

In that case, I would just take the advice you recently gave WelshBloke in the other thread, and don't feed the troll. :p

Good idea. It's amazing how much off-topic trolling he gets away with.

I know, I think every time he posts in a thread from now on about the royal family I'll just link him to this thread so he can nef away.

You're thinking only within the confines of allowing the royal family to keep the Crown Estate as personal property. There can very clearly be legal mechanisms to ensure that the Crown Estate does not go into private ownership of the royal family.

Moreover, the current family has never had private ownership of the Crown Estate. It could be argued that it is effectively state land. If the Monarch (the institution that owns the land) ceases to exist, the current family does not necessarily have private ownership in the land.

I've never seen someone so obsessed with issues of race in my life. I swear if Ron Paul said he wanted to institute a monarchy, RapidMongoose would have an aneurysm. :hmm:

No you're confused it reverts back to them if something changes.

You are putting way too much faith in COW. He's a blatant troll. He is not interested in evidence or reason.

I think he's Indian (from what I've been told) and still has problems with his race and having been subjugated in the past.

How can it 'revert back' to them if they never owned it to begin with?

You're just completely wrong on this issue.

They did own it, they built it it's theirs, always has been, always will be. They're the royal family you know.

I'd be uncomfortable for government to be able to assume ownership of whatever land it wants for what ever reason it wants, and or to rewrite agreements to suit itself.

They do own the land they just don't have full control over it.

This is a very sad case of peasant-complex. I suggest that you break free from the shackles of peasantdom and learn more about your own country.
