Let's decide this once and for all: do nice guys really finish last?

Hell yes....women only say they want a 'nice' guy....but nice guys aren't exciting enough in the long term :|

No actually, nice guys tend to overdo it and become "yes-men". Women DO appreciate nice guys, but they don't want a doormat either.

Ahh... 19 years of being of the nice guy... 19 years of ALWAYS FINISHING LAST...

My vote goes for yes, nice guys finish last.

Nope, we don't. At least, we don't have to. The problem is that "nice guys" sit around and complain about it too much and are often entirely too afraid of getting shot down. If we're just patient and don't whine about every single time we get turned down, we'd be far better off. And to be honest, who cares if you don't have a girlfriend at 19 or 20? If you're 30 and you've never dated, then there might be problems, but at 19 or 20? Come on.

but this just means that mean guys finish first until the end when nice guys finish first... so they finish last... get it?

ie. in time nice guys will finish....
 
How do you guage first and last? If you're a nice guy and you do 'finish first' and get that girl you want who's naturally inclined to go after the 'bad boy', how happy are you? I'd say you finished pretty far back that way because you'll both be miserable.

Be more than a nice guy, also be active - pursue the girls in your nice guy way as much as the jerks pursue them in their jerkish way. The girls worth having will prefer you by a long shot. In that scenario I'd say it's the girls who are lucky enough to finish first, and you should be pretty happy too.
 
I'm kind of dismayed to see that so many people have bought in to the idea that nice guys do finish last. Seems to me to be largely a rationalisation used by by people who are unsuccessful on the dating scene. I'm about as far from successful as a person can get, but I don't go around claiming that it's just because I'm a nice guy. I take a look at myself and I see that it is because of an irrational fear of being shot down, so I work on this. Saying nice guys finish last is just a nice little psychological trick whereby people like myself can gain a sense of superiority to the guys who are successful, the guys whom, in truth, we envy.

Let me put it this way, would any of you nice guys who are complaining about not having a girlfriend be willing to "trade lives" with a bad boy so you could have a girlfriend? If you would do that, you're not really a "nice guy".
