Let's check your co-pay.....

Nice Hospital Admissions Nurse on the phone: "That'll be overnight stay, $750.00. How would you like to pay?" 😵

Me: "Can you bill me? I have a check coming in after the first. I don't have that kind of cash laying about this close to the first." 😳 :$

N.H.A.N: "Sure" :colbert:

Me: "That's great. Thank you."

I'm glad I've got insurance. A manager of a regional FF resturant I know in Folsom DOESN'T have medical insurance and he described a huge ventral hernia.

I 'm having bilateral inguinal and a small ventral incisional hernia repairs done tomorrow AM. Went in for the 550,000 mile check up and Doc took one look at me and said "How long you had those hernias?" I was like "whut? derrr.." Turns out I'm a lucky sob these haven't trapped anything over the past couple of years.

No wonder I've been feeling like someone's was squeezing my nuts in the morning. 😵:whiste:😳

So did you have 3 nuts in your sack?

Or was it just above the flag pole?

Or in the sweaty leg pit area?

A bong and a blintz?

A pipe and a crepe?

A schmoke and a pancake?

Well, there's just no pleasing you, then.

Pics of abdomen? Ventral hernias seem like they should be relatively obvious. Inguinal hernias - yikes. I saw a HUGE one in a guy - initially we thought he had a tumor of some sort. Turned out it was his large bowel protruding into his scrotum. That's something that can't be unseen.

Phone cam is bogus as it didn't like being dropped.🙄 Maybe when I get back we can show some incisions. The Ventral is right above the navel, at the edge of the patch that was put in in 2010. I may have contributed to the failure of that one by getting active too soon. 😳
The left inguinal can be pushed back in, but the right 😵 omg, it's huge and squishy and doesn't want to go back in.

I told them I'm gonna need something to kick my ass into the couch rather than take the pain away and make me feel good enough to go outside and play.

Done and done. Now for the hard part...rest and healing, no exertion or stress on the affected areas. I'm not numb enough yet.

2 weeks ago, I took my wife to urgi-care due to severe pain (gall bladder). We considered the E.R. (better doctor on call), but figured the outcome would be the same. E.R. was 15 minutes further away, and urgi-care was a $10 copay instead of $50 copay for the E.R. 4 1/2 hours later, after the morphine & other pain killer wore off, we were at the E.R. Vomiting, all sorts of pain; they took her in while I did the registration. "The copay is $50." "Uh, my wife has the debit card and check book with her in her purse. Mind if I just pay later?" A couple hours later, "she's being admitted. Your copay for an E.R. trip with an admission is zero; you don't owe $50." Sweeeeeet!

Heh, we met our max out of pocket back in February. Wife had to spend a couple nights in the ICU recently 'cause they couldn't get her seizures under control.

Hospital admissions: "I'm sorry for what you're going through. We have payment plans available if you need financial assistance."

Me: "Hell, we met our MOOP ages ago. Do what you gotta do. It's basically free as far as I'm concerned."

Her: "Awesome."

Why did you even share that? And how the fuck can an intestine end up in your scrotum? Jesus...

Inguinal hernias can manifest in two ways that I've learned, one via the gap where testes dropped and one via abdominal wall muscle separation. There are some diagrams on wikipedia that show it clearly. What is fucked up is having colon fuse to the bladder, and co-mingling of their contents.😵
It happens far more frequently than one might otherwise assume.

Mine were "huge blowouts" according to the surgeon. The best thing about this is I have a flat abdomen for the first time in ages. No, there will be no pics.

30 days and no bill. Got one yesterday for an office visit 2 weeks before the surgery , so I guess another 2 weeks.

Give it another 5 months, they won't forget.....they never forget.

But seriously, I've received bills up to 6 months later. Sometimes it's because insurance is so slow on their portion.

Medical /surgical devices and supplies $4,127.75
Anesthesia $4,882.00
Operating Room Services $14,911.00
Recovery Room $2,820.00

OMFG .... I'm thanking the Great Magnet I have Medical Insurance.

Good thing they fixed it this year. Things are going to start getting ugly, in the next couple of years.

So what would you pay for a new transmission for your car? What about a new refrigerator? What about a new washing machine? There's lots of things that you absolutely need that cost a lot of money. You only have to pay $750 for the one time maintenance your most personal and irreplaceable possession. It's a bargain if you ask me.

I'm glad I live in Canada, where I don't have to worry about how much a hospital visit will cost me.
<insert raspy old man Eastwood voice > Git off my yard SOCIALIST! 😱 😳
