The new MBPs are too rich for my blood, but on the upside, the MBA refresh + price drop puts the old MBA in an attractive price point. Apple has the old base 13" MBA refurbed for $929 + tax.
No Streetview in Maps will suck
Mac Pro users got screwed

When it launches I believe. Are they making it so you can talk with facetime over celluar before then or when it launches?
Thanks
It's not significant at all.I mean, it's a pretty significant upgrade, processor-wise for the price, but there's a lot that should have been addressed.
For the most valuable tech company in the world with $100b cash in the bank, keeping up with the Joneses shouldn't be "nuts" for them.Would be kind of nuts for them to literally redo their entire PC lineup at once...even apple has limitations.

They do everything for a reason, methodically. There's a reason they didn't update iMacs, Mac Minis and Mac Pros; there's also a reason they axed the MBP17.

I expect the iMac hasn't been updated because they're unable to get good enough yields of 3840x2160 21.5 inch and 5120x2880 27 inch displays, I expect to see them in a couple of months though. And I expect that the TBD will be released as "retina" as well at the same time.Couldn't that reason be as simple as reserving production capacity for the relaunch of their best selling PC product (laptops)? They'll be struggling to pump them out as fast as they can for weeks, it certainly wouldn't help if they had the extra burden of a rush of new desktops. IIRC the iMac and macbook pro weren't refreshed at the same time last year either. If by july/aug we see no new desktops, something is amiss, but I see no reason to panic.

The Mac Mini... I'm not sure. The Mac Pro? The tech they want isn't ready yet and they're not going to update it again in six months or a year so they're waiting.
Yeah but that's very different from this scenario. The iPad needed more powerful hardware and much better battery life to handle the higher resolution, which isn't a factor at all with the iMac.It took 2 years to go from a Retina iPhone display to a Retina iPad display. We may be waiting a while for a Retina iMac and Thunderbolt display.
Dual Mini DisplayPort should be able to handle 5120x2880 fine though. And some of the higher end AMD Radeon HD 7000 series support 7680x4320.However, the hardware limitations of GPUs limit the 27" display to 3840x2160 because of DisplayPort 1.2 standards. GPUs also aren't rated for anything higher than 4K. Perhaps Apple could whip up a special display and GPU, but then pretty much only the iMac and Mac Pro could use it, which is too limiting and leaves out laptops.
The reason is because they are going for a more drastic redesign of their desktop lineup.Couldn't that reason be as simple as reserving production capacity for the relaunch of their best selling PC product (laptops)? I think the iMac will the Retina display, same thin screen design as retina MacBook Pro to decrease glare, etc.The reason is because they are going for a more drastic redesign of their desktop lineup.
No way! Firstly that would gimp the iMac line and no one would buy it as a desktop anymore, and secondly 27 inches is way too small for an HDTV.The new iMacs are going to be drastically thinner, with a more TV-appliance feel. In fact, I see no reason why the iMac and rumored Apple Television can't be merged into one product line. Take a wafer-thin LED display, insert MBA guts into the base, and you've got a "smart TV"/desktop. Axe the 21.5" model completely, start them at 27" and go up from there.
Tim's confirmed that a 2013 Mac Pro is coming, and I expect the Mac Mini will be updated alongside the iMac.The Mac Mini and Mac Pro make up such a small segment of Apple's sales, I'm wondering if they'll either axe them completely, or unify their standalone desktop lineup to one device.
