According to Mike Pereira

"Examples of this were put on the officials weekly training tape pointing out instances where it wasn't called this season but should've been"

This was the first time it was called but looks like the league is making a point to start calling it...

I consider it stolen, yea there's always calls that don't go your way but that penalty had absolutely no bearing on the FG attempt whatsoever, if they formed a train and plowed over the holder then yea, but that was utter bullcrap.

Consider it even for the Patriots after there was no holding called on the Patriots last play against the Saints.

What a tic-tack penalty, pushing the back of you own player?,Christ, there's a pile of people from both teams rushing to one spot on the field how in the fuck can that be avoided, I know you can't climb up a players back and try and block a FG but that's just a ridiculous new rule they put in and I've NEVER seen it called, ever..

They have called it before against the Saints. Its a pretty dumb rule

These Packers throwbacks are very confusing. I have to look at the Browns helmets to orient myself every time.

Yeah after they showed the replay I agree. I thought the penalty was going to be something a lot more blatant. I wasn't even aware you couldn't do that.

They explicitly said after the penalty was called that THIS particular penalty was added to the rule books THIS SEASON along with several of the other safety related penalties.

Get over it kids.

I keep thinking the Browns are playing the Steelers every time that game shows up. 😕

The world has turned up-side-down. Usually the refs favored Tom Brady's team.

How in the hell can that be avoided in the first place?, flag should not be thrown unless it has any influence on the play, again, I can see if 3-4 guys got together and trained over the center preventing the snap then yea, but that was just incidental contact with his own teammate, that was a hard-fought game by both teams and there is certainly no guarantee the Pats could have driven back into FG range after the missed kick given how well the Jets defense had played today but for fuck's sake let the players determine the outcome jackass ref's..

So a holding call on a receiver on the other side of the field that gets thrown to the ground that gives a 5 yard penalty and fresh set of downs should never happen by your standards. Right? It had nothing to do with the play after all. It's on the rule book. It's an execution mistake that the players and coaches need to be aware of too. Get over it.

I was thoroughly enjoying watching the jets pound their way down the field in ot. If they kick the field goal and win I'd been satisfied with that. But to have the game handed to them on a silver platter like that was ridiculous.

Yea, I understand if you form a train with multiple players you could potentially disrupt the snap/hold of the FG but that clearly not what he was trying to do, he was just trying to get to the line of scrimmage and it had zero effect on the kick, flag should not have been tossed IMO..

The refs have a hard on for certain things each week. That's how Suh got hit up for $100k for a low block.

I don't agree with it but this is Goodell's league and that's what he wants.

That's a totally different scenario because the receiver that got held could not get open because of the hold hence it forces the QB to have to try a different throw.

I'm sold on Trestman as an offensive guy. I believe now that he can put guys in positions to succeed.

The jury is still out on Mel Tucker. He has no bodies to work with, but he also hasn't found any way to maximize what he has.

And someone throw Merriwheather out of the league already.
