So we probably shouldn't mention Roy Williams....

We might have paid him way too much money, but he wasn't exactly a bust. He was pretty productive. And it isn't like the Lions have really gone places since then. I think they got Pettigrew in place of the Cowboy's first round pick and Derrick Williams who isn't even in the league anymore. They had already went 0-16 before that, so they needed all the help they could get.

they seem to have a better record than the Cowgirls and are in first place in their division. That seems to be a better place than when they traded Williams (0-16). Pettigrew delivers good numbers even though his hands are not sure.

Are you going for the ignorant award this week?

Pettigrew has helped, but Williams paid off that season and the next. The Cowboys wouldn't have benefited from those same picks (Witten was been more productive) and Derrick Williams was a huge bust. The Lions have a solid team now, but it wasn't in large result from that trade. They've made great draft choices with their picks prior (Stafford and Megatron for example). I think them acquiring Reggie Bush was great thing as well. However, 2011 was the first time they've made the playoffs since 1999 and they haven't won their division since 1993.

you just said they hadn't gone places since then

now you are talking about how good they are

Do you get enough oxygen?

yea the pats were not all that amazing to begin with this year but have really been killed with injuries so far

Hey they got to 5-1 with scrub receivers, now with Wilfork gone for the season, ditto Mayo, Amondola probably 2-4 weeks, Talib 6 weeks it's gonna be tough sledding from here on out, the defense was playing really well so far..

Giving away 5-6 draft picks or players for one guy is insane in a league where you can tear your ACL walking back to the huddle.

I just hope its only a concussion. Going out instantly like that is bad, the way he was walking afterwards was really bad

no doubt!

Freeman now the starter.

Ratliff cut.

Peyton going next question on the colt-denver growing bruhaha.

Houston starter undecided.

And the union has now official filed claims for Hernandez guaranteed salary, a perfect time just before the jets game with several more going out with injury.

Compared to the Herschel Walker trade? No, they haven't gone places. The Cowboys Won 3 (at the very least 2) Superbowls off that trade. '92 and '93 for sure and '95 could be argued as well. 3 years after their 1-15 season they won a Superbowl. The Lions, by comparison, haven't even won their division from the Roy Williams trade.

I would think not showing up to work he would have broken his contract.

The players union is trying to get Hernandez his money? I haven't seen the story, so I'm just wanting to clarify this. I sure hope that is the case. Despite what everyone might think, he is innocent until proven guilty and guaranteed money means guaranteed.

It was my impression shortly after he was arrested they released him. It was within the hour almost.

You forgot Suh was fined AGAIN! $31,500 for Weeden HIt. Dude's going to be broke from fines at this rate. 😀

KT

Yes, earlier they filed for an offseason bonus, now they've filed for his base salary, roster bonus and other miscellaneous payments owed.

something about getting released meant they still owed him something that would otherwise have been waived if they didn't release him and let things take their natural course.

I don't agree with them fining, but if they are going to fine, they need to step it up. $31,500 just isn't enough to deter this behavior. He has a big contract. If they want players to stop these kinds of hits, they need to set an example. Nothing against Suh, but the league is going soft. The minimum first offense start at $100,000.

I saw earlier that they were looking at a hit, something that before this year wouldn't have been fined but it was being looked at under this years top of the helmet rule. Hardly something I'd put under the repeat offender/dirty player label.

I still think, they should announce the rules and fines at the start of the season. Everyone has a clean slate and the starting offense is $100k. If they want to take player safety seriously, they can't be soft on things like this. It might be a new rule, but that doesn't mean you should get off soft for breaking it.

Interesting article on Trent Richardson

Pro Football Reference:

Richardson Working Hard for Minimal Gains

Once again Trent Richardson fell short in terms of base stats in this game and some will be looking for reasons to justify the Colts’ decision to trade for him — though he did, at least for the box-score watchers, net a 4.0 yard per carry average for the first time in Colts’ blue. What those base stats don’t show is the hard work Richardson had to do in order to engineer those minimal gains, making cuts in backfield and picking up the majority of his yards after contact for the third straight week. Richardson tied a season high with 2.8 yards per carry after first contact and forced two missed tackles as a runner. With a little more help up front, displays like that might lead to him gaining more yards off the back of his effort.
