If you have a fenced in backyard (6ft wooden fence) and don't keep any of your tools or lawncare machinery in the back, would you let your 3 and 5 year old play out there by themselves if you check on them every 10-15 minutes? Oh, and no pool.
 
If your children are retarded enough for you to fear for their safety even in an empty back yard then i would definitely watch them.
 
Oh, I forgot to mention, they have a box of roman candles and a lighter...

But no, seriously... I got yelled at by my SIL for letting the kids play out back. I just looked at her funny and said the kids were fine.

Seriously this depends on the children involved and the status of your yard. Is it an overgrown cesspool? If the kids are level headed and you have some pit bulls to protect them.

What if it is an overgrown cesspool? What will happen to them? As long as you don't have tigers hiding in the grass or anything, I don't see a problem with letting the kids play without constant supervision.
 
I can't see why it would not be ok, but with the way things are these days if you have bad neighbors they might call children's aid just to get you in trouble.

As long as you can easily get to them fast I don't see the issue. The odds of something going wrong is quite slim.

I have two of my own and come from a big family.

The child can have those accidents inside as well. What are you going to do, wrap the kid in bubble wrap? The great outdoors is not a scary place unless you've spent/are spending your formative years in your mom's basement.

Haha so true, kids are like lemmings no matter what you do they'll find a way to get hurt. Almost every kid has put a paper clip in a socket, or their hand on the stove. Some lessons can be hard to learn, but they learn them... once, hopefully. 😛

There are as many dangers inside then there are outside in a rather clean yard.
