Just like with the purported insanely high rez, I'll believe it when I see it.

I agree, am actually a bit burned out on tablets, I quit taking mine to work for lunch surfing after I got the EVO, sold the WiFi iPad I had, need to sell the 3G version I have, I really don't have a use for it I can't replicate with a notebook or the nook color.

I do wish there was a NetFlix hack for the nook color :(

If this thing really has a doubled resolution display, I'm there day 1. I love me some DPI :p

Double resolution + a full native version of XBMC? SHIT, I'll sell a Kidney to get one if I have to. 1080p video with XBMC as the interface = most possible win ever.

Gruber usually wired in on Apple leaks, says it's going to stay the same resolution, but that they'll bond the LCD to the glass, like the current iPhone

My prediction: Same res, no SD card slot, they add front and rear cameras, remove the Home button to make it smaller, and increase the battery life. Probably drop prices a little.

Personally, I still don't see a use for it. Between a smartphone and a 11.6" notebook, I have all the tech I need. :)

It'll have an SD slot, a micro USB port and the Home button will still be there. I don't think they've done that multi-touch thingy we've read about fully yet but maybe they have. I see this as a minor upgrade to the first since even if they slightly upgrade it, it'll still be the best tablet in the market since none of the good competition tablets are coming out until waaaaaaaay later in the year and we still have no definitive date on any of these Honeycomb tablets so everything is up in the air.

Question:

With an SD card, what will become of the different models of varying storage? Apple clearly extracts HUGE margins by making a "32gb" version or a "64gb" version, increasing its already large margins.

I'm expecting a neutered SD card. No apps, no music, etc. You can copy photos from a camera to your iPad. Perhaps music is a possibility, but I'm guessing no apps.

I'll be getting one for the next holidays for my grandparents for Facetime.

I am not positive about the MicroUSB port, but the rest sounds about right. The reason for the home button is usability. You hand someone an iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad and BAM, they press the button right there on the front and the sucker wakes up, even if they have never used one before. You hand your average Android/WinMoPho device to someone that isn't familiar with them and they spend more than just a few seconds looking for how to turn the thing on.

I would definitely figure on it letting you pull images off of a camera, but not to be used as additional app storage. And based on how the SD card slots work on their full computers, it probably won't sit flush which means leaving a card in all the time isn't advisable.

Hmm so you think no USB port of any kind? That's a good point about the SD slot to make it stick out so you won't have it in 100% of the time.

The AppleTV has a MiniUSB port, but that is 'a hobby' as Apple puts it, none of their other portables have one. I saw one mockup that had 2 Dock connectors, on adjacent sides so you could dock it landscape.

The MicroUSB port... I just don't see it happening. Sure, you can currently hook up the camera adapter and use the USB port on there to hook up keyboards and whatnot, but as I saw someone else put it, if you put a USB port on there, people will expect it to work like a USB port (which is not an unfair expectation). They will expect that plugging in their mouse will let them use the mouse. They will expect their printer, webcam, external hard drive, XBox360 controller, scanner, keyboard, optical drive, et al. to work just as it would on their PC/Mac. And iOS is simply not designed for that.

I would anticipate them increasing the functionality of the camera adapter (meaning that you can hook more things into it to expose surprise features) before they put an actual honest to god USB port on there. Once OS X and iOS merge into iOS 11 (or whatever) and the portables have the processing chops for a desktop experience with true multi-tasking and backgrounding, and handling many peripherals then I think we will see the true iPad. iPad 7 or whatever, where you can hook it up to a dock, which is connected to a keyboard, trackpad and display, work on files, and then pull it off and nothing changes other than shrinking things back down.
