Oh and DarkLight I know the things that could have happened to me. Reckless driving is a misdenor <sp?> offense and punishable by up to 1.5 years in jail, 3k dollars, and suspension of licsence. Endangerment of life of another person has a maxium fine of 150k! (my friend would have been the "endanger'ee"). After this, believe me, I won't be so stupid.

Trooper (while I am getting my liscence and insurance card): "You realize you could've killed someone weaving into traffic like that going that fast. I could arrest you for reckless driving and bring you to Cook County jail for this."
The trooper was talking about a limo that we had just passed. I believe he was trying to make me realize the implications of what I was doing by using that phrase. It worked =(

I've only gotten out of one speeding ticket.
It was easter sunday '99 about 11am.
I was driving my friend's stanza on the way back from a party in Indianapolis on I74.
I had 3 girls in the back seat that all started wimpering to the officer about having to pee really badly. He gave me a really dirty look and a warning for the 91 in a 65. We pulled off the first exit and peed, even tho none of us had to before we got pulled over.
Other than that I haven't done so well...
88 in a 55 when 17
65 in a 45 when 19
62 in a 45 when 21
71 in a 55 on 22nd bday
89 in a 65 recently...

I don't complain tho. If I had gotten a speeding ticket for a quarter of the time I was racing or just speeding I wouldn't have a license.
The top speed of a 88 Prelude 2.0si is about 132MPH on a flat stretch of I65 🙂

I know a few cops and my cousin is going to be in the NYPD soon I hope. I think this trooper did the right thing. Lesson well thought.

<< I knew it was only a matter of time before I started getting the "stupid moron" comments, and they are well taken. I respect your point of view and I see how that can be taken. As for the "ricer" comment, c'mon now, I drive a '96 Mercury Mystique, anything but. And for those claiming I was driving fast to show off to my friend, (who happens to be a girl) well, then you are just plain wrong. The sad/fun thing is, is that I enjoy driving fast and drive very safely and responsibly, only speeding when it is safe. Now to a lot that is going to sound like a lot of rubbish, but deal with it.

Bob970:
I was on I-294 going south about 15mi from I-55.

The cop said he noticed you weaving in and out of traffic -- at nearly 2x the legal speed limit, that's not safe.

I disagree. There are places and times where you are the only one on the road. Here in South Texas, we have some stretches of road (where myself and my buds ride our sportbikes) where it's just you and Jesus for MILES around. If I wiped at 140mph, there'd be a looooong red stain but no one else would get hurt.
I do agree that it's foolish...but so's getting out of bed in the morning. Speed limits are for the lowest common denominator. Elderly, handicapped, far-sighted women that are driving family vans.

I totally agree with MichaelD on this one there are times when i want to just blast off in my car with the top down and the wind..well you get the idea 🙂 I like to drive fast, so sue me if i do.

dangit.

it is spelled LICENSE !

sorry. blatant abuses of the english languages severely annoy me. like people not capitalizing their sentences.

<< i'd like to know your reason for driving 100mph in a 55mph zone? you moron >>

100 in a 55 is actually quite common in chicago on some of the expressways. dont assume he's a moron, he could have simply been keeping up with the left lane.

VRoOMdesigns:
I apologize for the spelling.
License. License. There, I have creative license to type how I feel =).

Thank you Luckster for someone else bringing up that point. I know that if I did it wouldn't have been believed.

And Jerboy, I am sorry that you feel that way. Evidentally you have never gone that fast and do not know that while yes stopping distance increases and reaction time decreases, the fact is, if you turn your wheel too far at 65mph or 100mph your still going to kill someone. If you feel I should have my license revoked till I am 18 as you stated in your PM, then that is your opinion and I guess I have to respect that. At the same time I don't understand what my age has to do with any of this.

hmm.. well that road does tend to move along at fast speeds.. i was going 75 on it friday night and was one of the slower cars...

Man, I would have been doing 100 too... There aint nothing out there. 55 south is better. nice and long and straight. I got a ticket for 87 in a 55 on my way to school at 3 in the morning. You are very lucky you did not get a ticket. Personally, I would haev thought you were on the Elgin-O'hare. That is a nice 2 lane drag strip, and everyone knows it. If there is not a cop under Roselle road bridge, your home free 🙂

Since you're still a minor, suspending your license until you're an adult is something jury does from time to time. Consider yourself lucky you weren't over 18 and over, because you would have faced much tougher penalty. You just made another example of youth and immaturity. Not every young drivers are immature, but statistic shows there is quite accurate correlation. Look at the insurance rate. Should your insurance company find this violation, your rate would easily double.

100 in a 55. I just hope that when you kill yourself driving like a moron you don't take anyone else with you. The cop did you and the public a grave disservice by not arresting you and impounding your car on the spot. Keep driving that way, junior, you wont have to worry about losing your license until your 18, you won't live that long.

<< well... there certainly are wide open roads in illinois too.. everyone thinks chicago.. but after the subarbs... there really aint much left.. >>

i was unlucky enought to be stationed at chanute, afb in rantoul, Il. can you say bumf*ck egypt?

I got to 148 in my '86 with a "modified" 1.8l. Not something I would want to do again. That was 2 weeks after the Elgin-O'Hare opened. That was a dragstrip for about a month 🙂

Every try 53/290? @ 75 you better be in the far right lane 🙂 Left lane is for 100+ people. I have never seen a cop on 53.

<< Look at the insurance rate. Should your insurance company find this violation, your rate would easily double. >>

It would be alot more than that, assuming you were even insurable. A guy I know was caught and arrested for passing a cop doing over 125 on 80/94, and his insurance company refused to insure him. He was uninsurable for a year. ( The guy was not my firend, just someone who went to my high school )

Dude, slow down before you kill someone. I had a friend running 100+ he wasnt so lucky, neither was the 13 year old he hit. Man slaughter charges 2 years in jail and lost his job and his family. As for the 13 year olds family. I couldnt bare to think of what it done to them.

Speeding like that will certainly ruin a persons life!

oh please, there is no way a trooper would let a 16 y/o off after doing almost twice the posted limit. they know 16 y/os are the worst drivers in the world. they wouldn't let you off. no way. there's a reason why insurance for 16 y/o's is higher than for anyone else.

i'm starting to smell a big fat turd.

100 isn't fast as long as you are in control?

are you in control when an animal, such as a 125lb. deer runs in front of you?

I agree that there is a higher tendancy of accidents with teenage males, and that my insurance rates would double, I fully understand that. I also understand the why, had I been arrested, the fact that I am a minor comes into play. However, when looking at this the way you previously had been (it's wrong for anyone to drive this fast), I was asking why my age was involved. If you are trying to imply that I do not know what 1) I am talking about; 2) am a cocky 16yr old who races down streets; or 3)am just plain out stupid for doing such a thing, let me assure you are wrong. 1) In order to have just held this conversation, well figure that one out for yourself.. 2) I have NEVER had any previous run in with the law - no attending parties with alchohol, no staying out past curfew, no anything remotely illegial. 3) I don't particurally consider myself stupid as in 8th grade my ACT score was 32, I have more service hours in my high school of aprox. 2000 students than any other, doubled; while on the way home, when I was pulled over, I was on the way home from a youth leadership meeting. So to imply that I am some 16yr average teenage boy who is reckless, and doesn't care about his community is quite the wrong impression. And if you are going to say "what does this have to do with anything?" It shows character, a common tactic in legal cases which the decsions of an individual are under question.

hahha, damn.. i feel sorry for ya.. that blows!

I would like to believe that as well. Really, if I hadn't been so upset at the moment he was questioning me, I would've asked for his name and phone number, in case anyone wanted to talk to him to confirm what I was saying.. <edit> also Fanon, he asked me (not included in the dialouge) if "I have had a ticket in the past 12 months" leading me to believe he thought I was older than I was until he looked at my drivers license.<edit>

God I merely posted asking a question, and I get flamed for telling the truth. Ouch.

Also as for the 125lb deer on an expressway.. ok maybe, as for avoiding it at 100mph compared to 65mph, maybe you have 1 second more. Yes yes, 1 second more can save a life, so could not driving at all. Now this is going to be biased by the number of people who drive at speeds of 90mph+, but it you look at the "real" statistics, the majority of accidents on the highway occur with those either with vehicle malfunction or operator error, operator error being driving below the limit, excessive lane switching, known as weaving in AND out of traffic (I merely merged, but the trooper said "weaved into"), racing, and alcohol. Now you tell me if you would rather have a)me driving you home, being sure of my driving (haven driven over 15kmiles and having my license for about 10 months) or b) old man "Bob" driving at 55mph not sure if the thing in the corner of his eye is a car or a beautful maiden calling him to switch lanes (note the sarcasm).

regardless, unlesss its a life or death situation, there really isn't any need to drive that fast. I won't call you a moron, I'll just call you young and hope you chalk this up to experience.
