Just built my computer and am having problems with the following things:
1. The CDRW and DVD Drive don't work
2. The monitor doesn't display.

1. Plugged IDE cable connector (master) to the DVD drive, and the (slave) to my CDRW.
- Power cable is connected to both of this drives as well
- Result, no power, doesn't turn on when turning on the computer

2. Have: Radeon 8500, Flat Screen Monitor
- Installed it properly into the mobo
- Screwed it on.
- Installed the converter that came with the video card (to allow display onto Flat Screen)
- Nothing appears on monitor

Please help.. suggestions welcome
Thanks

try 2 things:

-try a different monitor and/or videocard with your system to see if they work

-try a different cd-rom drive to see if that works

That's really weird... how many watts is your power supply? Are you sure the plugs are on the right way (i.e., you didn't really force them on? They can only go on one way, but...)

I'd suspect the converter. Have you tried the video card in another computer? With a normal monitor? If so, and if it worked, then I would guess the converter would be the problem.

Sorry, that's the best I can come up with.

getting no video output is a bad sign. Try disconnecting your HD's, floppy drives, and cd-r units first until you get a video output. All you need is 1 stick of ram, CPU and video card to get somthing on the screen.

thanks for the reply's, will have to take the video card to my friends and see if it will work there. As far as the CD drive is concerned.. Not only is the CD drive not working but the DVD drive as well.. I have an Abit and a pentium 4.. Tried switching slots, looked to see if the cables were connected and everything looks okay.. Should work.. have an enermax 350 watt.. Please let me know
