I purchase downloadable music (protected) from WalMart.com...

to make these songs play on my car stereo that plays mp3s....i have to....

burn onto a cd using Media Player...

RIP to the hard drive using the media player with the mp3 codec...

wasting a friggin CD ROM... and taking all kinds of time.?

sorry to be perhaps a newbie to this.....but this is friggin lame

Even so, I don't like the idea of buying music that is not losslessly compressed, especially when it comes with some lovely DRM hassles.
 
burn the music to a virtual cd via Nero (or something similar) and rip the audio from there. No need to waste a cd.

When you select your burner, select "Image Recorder" instead, and then mount the image using some software and rip it.

Sad but true. Copy protection has always been more effective at punishing the customer than preventing unauthorized ownership.
