What is all this supposed to protect us from again?? Shoebombers? Terrorists with boxcutters?

Terrorists with large obvious explosives in their checked bags

So many new security measures and not one of them would prevent another 9/11. What a waste. A team of determined suicide terrorists will still be able to do whatever they want.

Yep, I don't understand why they put everyone through all this crap when they could have used the Israeli airlines as a security model. They look for terrorists not weapons. We look for weapons on 80 year old grandmothers, mothers who are nursing, and toddlers while they individuals who fit the profile of terrorists slip by because it would be politically incorrect to stop them.

Because weapons kill people all by themselves.. PEOPLE like TERRORISTS aren't hurting anyone..

It's the boxcutters and the toenail clippers that are the problem, not the a$$holes that did anything with them.. Hell I've seen a boxcutter jump up and take over a plane all by itself.. scary experience, it took a while to talk it down... thank god for that hostage negotiator.. he coudl talk to boxcutters...

Damage - you are right on. Look what George W. is doing to our country. This is beyond stupid. I love the way Israel checks for terrorists. Asks non yes and no questions, uses voice scanners to see if the person is lying. Cross reference passports to databased.

It would be a much better use of our time/money. Flying is just becoming too inconvinent now.

Also - when was the last time a checked on bag had a bomb with it and it got through and blew up the plane? I don't remember, do you? That means it was probably a long time ago. So why go crazy for that all of a sudden.

For the illusion of security; to allow people to "see" that their government is actually doing something to help them, even if it is a big fat waste of time. Gotta placate the masses, don't ya know.

Probably Lockerbie, Scotland.

My guess is that you are consenting to the search when you buy your plane ticket. You have no "right" to fly so what makes you think you have a "right" to privacy while doing so?

Security is a tough issue, folks. I'm sure it looks easy from the cheap seats but feel free to step up to the plate. Yes the Israels do it very effectively however they are doing it on a much smaller scale than we are attempting to. Profiling is an effective tool but the PC crowd in this country won't stand for it. Easy to get around profiling, too. Truly random searches are also an effective way to do security. Yes, Grandma is going to get searched and I'm sure you will all be more than happy to point out the one or two ridiculous searches that take place out of the daily thousands. There is technology that can help, is not as intrusive, etc. but it takes time and money to implement. True security is very hard to accomplish and may be completely elusive in an open, public facility but we should make it as hard as possible for people to do bad things on airplanes. Like all things born of a tragedy we have had a kneejerk reaction wrt security in airports. The pendulum will swing back towards the middle.

They are protecting us from shoe bombers by STILL allowing lighters & matches to be carried on board. Either these people have no idea what they're doing, or they know exactly what they're doing, which is something totally other than increasing airline safety.
