I am making a set of 3 fan filters for my case fans (the 3 that intake air). I have seen several of the premade filters that you can buy, and they all seem pretty restrictive in terms of airflow. I am looking to make some that will restrict the flow of air as little as possible, and can be cleaned and reused. One of my roommates has a filter that came w/ his Antec case that looks like it is made of an extremely fine screen (perhaps 1/4 the size of a window screen mesh). Has anyone had any good or bad experiences? I'd appreciate the input.

P.S. I have considered using part of a womens' stocking to stretch over the fans. Do you think that would work?

Thanks folks! :D

actually a lot of case modders recommend pantyhose for ghetto fan filters, so try asking your gf or better yet your mom and see the results.:D

I've been using dryer sheets in mine. Working pretty good so far and the room has that spring rain freshness to it. :)

Used dryer sheets, or new ones? I know that after being used once, they are substantially thinner. Thanks for the ideas!

cut up t-shirts (or any other not-too-thick cloth really)... coffee filters are cheap and abundant :)

It depends on what I have handy when I replace the dusty ones. Either way they work well for me.

I use cut up sections of home AC/heating filters, the blue fiber kind. It stops alot of dust for sure.

go to home depot and find replacement air filters for air conditioning, then cut a square that fits, and youll have enough for a year or so, they get everything(especially if you have acyrillic winodws ect), they dont restrict air flow either( most brands).....thats what i use in my best gaming rig....i cant have everything getting all scummy with the watercooling and insulation ect....

more effective = less air flow
less effective = more airflow
such is the compromise

Best air flow is when you use no filters at all... If your rig is running pretty cool already, then you can afford to use a filter, which will probably increase case temps a little bit, but you will have to experiment and keep an eye on your case and cpu temps...

Hmmm...but if they prefer string, you won't have enough material for a 120mm fan :p

EDIT: Whoops...stopped reading after pant
