Heres' the system:

Asus A7A266 mobo (most recent bios update)
T'bird 1 Gig @1 Gig
512 megs Micron DDR
64 Meg nVidia Geforce GTS AGP
Creative lab 128 pci
40 Gig 7200 rpm WD HD
16x Pioneer DVD
16x10x40 TDK burner
Win 2k

Here's the problem:
Watching DVD in full screen and playing some games, I get very jerky movement. I mean almost 1/2 second pauses. Also, I find that the sound (mostly in games like Half-Life and Unreal Tournament) is almost a second behind the video. This is a real annoyance. What could be configured wrong? Where are the best places to look for problems? In short, HELP!!!

Thanx:confused:

Oy...sounds like you either have old, bunk drivers or some sort of hardware problem. That system should have NO problems playing DVD at all. If I were you, I'd try and go for updated drivers if you haven't already, and if that doesn't work, I would try swapping out some of the hardware one piece at a time (assuming you have something else to try in it's place).

I'd guess it's the video card or the sound card. Off hand, the sound card looks particularly suspicious - creative isn't exactly the greatest about compatibility.

Dunno what else to try, really...

What OS are you running? I have a similiar setup, a Shuttle AK31A board instead of ur A7A266. My system has no "slowness" whatsover running Windows XP and ME. Try updating all your drivers and redoing a clean install of XP or Win98/ME.

I'm having the same problem you have. Here is my system ( some what like yours )

AMD athlon 1.4 ( oc @ 1.5 )
epox 8k7a mobo
40 gig WD HD
16x pioner dvd
24/10/40 tdk burner
Hercules game theater xp
64 megs on voodoo 5
256mb Mushkin DDR RAM
WINDOWS XP...............Seems slow.....my windows 98 was faster.......I did clean install for XP

My computer also has a 1/2 second pause when playing dvd and I downloaded Music videos and they also have a 1/2 pause. When I play my games they pause for 1/2 a second to a second. As i'm writing this right now my computer still pauses. My sound is good........it's just that my computer pauses. When I look at my processors usage % it goes from 60% down to 2% back up to around 60% and then back down around 2%. It just peaks up and down all the time. I know this isn't normal cause all i'm doing is running the mouse back and forth across the screen and no programs are running. SOMEBODY PLEASE HELP.
