I agree with you on the forced obsolescence, especially if they want to keep their attribute of making each version faster than the last. I have both Tiger and the Leopard 9a528 beta on my system, and they take roughly the same amount of time to boot (counting out loud), however Leopard feels a good deal snappier once you get to OS.

Seems like a bit of an arbitrary limitation.

However, I will say my original Mac mini (G4 1.25 GHz) often runs like a slug. Before you ask, it does have 1GB RAM and a 7200 rpm HD. I still get fairly good use out of it though. :)

Not a big deal to me.. I gave my parents my old iMac G4 (800Mhz), and it's still on 10.3.9 and working just fine for what they use it for. No need to upgrade the OS.
