Yes, its GWB's house in Crawford, Texas. But we all know what the reaction would have been had I given that information out.

I would have actually applauded him but questioned why he isnt supporting it nationally.

Me too. I don't really know what your point is, Corbett. I don't dislike the man. I dislike his policies.

I think your assumptions betray your own prejudices, not mine.

I think the point is that if he had posted a story about how great Bush is when it comes to energy use the people who are praising him now would have attacked him and called it a shame or something.

I am very impressed with the house, and he did all this before he was called out for being a hypocrite or making a movie about saving the world etc.

I know the point he was TRYING to make, but he made it poorly. He's blaming people for their hypothetical behavior in a hypothetical situation that didn't occur. It's like your wife saying "you would've cheated if you had the chance!" or a cop arresting you for a crime he thinks you would've committed.

The OP is not omniscient.
He doesn't know what I would've posted.
I applaud Leo's green habits as well as George W Bush's, but I wish the President would have the strength of his convictions to make public policy match his personal habits.

This is really peachy and all, but I wonder what the "carbon footprint" is for the war in Iraq... or how much energy it takes to send 3 carrier taskforces to threaten the Iranians...

I'd think that would dwarf whatever "green" measures ol' Dubya makes wrt his personal casa...

The bottom line appears there is little regulation nor verifiable way to prove paying for carbon offsets actually result in carbon neutrality.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carbon_offsets

The appeal of becoming "carbon neutral" has contributed to the growth of voluntary offsets, which often are a more cost-effective alternative to reducing one's own fossil-fuel consumption. However, the actual amount of carbon reduction (if any) from an offset project is difficult to measure, largely unregulated, and vulnerable to misrepresentation

Buyer beware.

Genx87,

I was just thinking yesterday I should go into the "carbon offsets" business. I'd rank it right up there with getting a star registered in your own name! But, if any of you tree huggers wants to send me $1,000 a month I will gladly stop driving my Grand Cherokee and turn my heat down to 65 degrees! Come on, its what Al Gore wants you to do! You should listen!

George W Bush is a hypocrit. He doesn't support most of the legislation that is eco-friendly, but then he goes and has a home like this. How dare he ...... wait, now I'm confused. Should I be angry or praising. How about before he leaves he goes and gets what he can installed in the Whitehouse and convinces others to get houses with these qualities, then maybe I won't dislike him quite so much.

You're right. Largely unregulated. If you had taken the time to look at my link though you would have seen that the people there listed also had the certifying body that made sure what they were doing was legit listed.

Ugh. I don't know why I bother. I know you must see my postings, I can see them myself... and other people respond to them... so I know that they are there. Yet the things you post ignore obvious points in them that are easy to see.

you seem to represent a segment of the our population that actively relishes being ignorant, as if it's a badge of honor, as if defying logic somehow makes you more manly.

i honestly don't understand it.

Yes, because it makes total sense to offset your carbon footprint by paying money! You are so right!

No, it makes sense to eliminate your carbon footprint by having things done that absorb the same amount of carbon as you put in the atmosphere.

Oh wait....

you could make that dream a reality for the low monthly cost of just $99.99... or so we keep hearing!

(price does not include tax, tags, or bongwater - service charges may apply - check your local pot dealer for listings.)

I wonder what happens if you eat or smoke one of these magic carbon-offset flowers... hmm...

no, i'm talking about your entire personality. you make assumptions about people which only betray your own limitations. you assume people blindly follow Al Gore because you're so used to blindly following others. you miss the big picture.

do i think global warming exists? yes, i think there's enough scientific data to warrant changing our behavior. if we're wrong, we're just erring on the side of caution.

do i think we should all work to reduce our carbon footprint, conserve more energy, and find alternative energy sources which are both better for our environment and profitable for companies? yes.

do Al Gore's personal habits change my opinions? no.
do George W. Bush's habits change my opinions? no.

I just don't understand the point of this thread. You're so caught up in trying to feel like you won, that you're completely missing the point.

What is the point of any thread here? Discussion, and since we are on page 4 it obviously worked. If you don't see the point of a thread, then don't post in it.

It's pretty damn obvious that his thread worked, you have Bush haters applauding Bush (before they knew it was him) for his actions, but then when they find out that it is actually Bush, they start bashing him.

lol.. this thread is actually pretty nifty in that it proves the illogical partisan bias many of us have seen here time and time again.

Some of you withdrew your praise the moment you found out that it is Bush who truly owns the house...

it would almost be funny if it wasn't so sad.

This just might be the most immature post I've ever seen in P&N that doesn't involve attacking another forum member... "pwns" indeed.

who applauded then bashed? maybe i missed it in the thread.

like i said before: i applaud his personal efforts. i wish his policy would match it.

i don't know why that's so hard for you to understand.
