Leonardo DiCaprio is NOT Global Warming hypocrite...

Update :

Yes thats right. All of the information below is true, it just happens that George W Bush is the owner of that 4,000 sq foot estate and its located down in Crawford, Texas. Laonardo is still very eco friendly though.

The only reason I changed the name is because we all know the applause would not be anywhere close to what they were for Leo had you known the whole truth.

As I said earlier, Leonardo actually practices what he preaches. Finally, a Global Warming supporter I can respect. He drives a Prius. He flies commercial. And now this.

Some info I found on his house :

The passive-solar 4,000sq ft house is positioned to absorb winter sunlight, warming the interior walkways and walls of the residence. Geothermal heat pumps circulate water through pipes buried 300 feet deep in the ground, which uses about 25% of the electricity that traditional heating and air-conditioning systems consume. A 40,000 US gallon underground cistern collects rainwater gathered from roof urns; wastewater from sinks, toilets, and showers cascades into underground purifying tanks and is also funneled into the cistern. The water from the cistern is then used to irrigate the landscaping around the four-bedroom home.

By marketplace standards, the house is startlingly small,? says David Manhey, the architect of the 4,000-square-foot home. ?Clients of similar ilk are building 16-to-20,000-square-foot houses.?

I've never been a fan of his movies, but I'll give him credit where it's due. Sounds like a decent fellow.

Gangs of New York was pretty awesome.

And yeah, if anything, you can at least respect him for his genuine concern about environmentalism. There are far too many who say it, but rarely practice it. Since we're on Hollywood in this thread, there are far too many who talk about it, buy a Prius and such, but then fly in private jets and have about eight Land Rovers.

If I had the cash, I'd probably have a similar home to the one described above.

Cool. It's my dream to have a truly green house. I own a bit of desert in New Mexico, I'm just waiting to be able to afford the construction.

Clearly an eco-friendly house. Surprised a hollywood hypocrite would do such a thing.
Maybe Al Gore should take notice :D

I think the whole point is that he really isn't a hypocrite when it comes to environmentalism.

I wasn't a fan when he was a teenage hearthrob, but then again what teenager really has a personality?

His role in celebrity, and a few since then made me a fan for sure.

Nice to see someone put his (ample!) money where his mouth is, too.

well, he drives a prius. that settles it, he is saving the world. man, those prius owners, how do they do it. it seems everyone out here drives a prius. if they had any sense, they'd get the civic, it drives better.

His performance in The Departed was kick@$$.

He's a great actor if you look past the whole Titanic thing... which I know is very hard to :D

Who, Leo or Al? I think in this case the owner of this house is clearly > Al Gore on the subject of being green and eco friendly.

Sounds like an expensive house.

I depends on how you calculate cost. A single (but active . . . hehe) guy living in a 4000sqft house seems outrageous but it sounds like it may have an environmental foot print closer to 1000sqft.

In comparison, I don't how big Gore's spread happens to be but it's obviously too big for two Boomer empty nesters . . . unless those pot smoking kids cannot get jobs. If you cut that utility bill by 75% it's down to $600 but I would be surprised if DiCaprio's spread used more than $400 (security lighting). In essence, saving thousands of dollar each month compared to someone like Gore.

Then of course, DiCaprio can still buy offsets (like Gore) to further support market approaches to pollution mitigation.

Hey, I heard Gore is signed up to purchase 100% green power for his house, is in the process of installing solar panels and is converting to compact fluorescent bulbs. Is he still a hypocrite, or what should he do next?

How about not flying across the country burning up thousands of gallons of jet fuel.

btw lets wait and see how much of this going green actually gets done by Gore. Politicians and their media underlings seem to have the ability to say things like this and never be called on it months down the road.

This house already has all the above and more and didnt need a reaction from people to get it. Clearly the owner is much more green friendly than Gore.

Wow, so he signed up to do this after he got singled out for not doing it, so now he's not a hypocrite? So I guess a Priest that molests little kids is ok as long as he stops doing it after he gets caught then right?
