Lens Trading

I can't really decide on this now, I was trying to sell my Tamron 28-75 2.8 for $360 to buy prime lenses, but the only offer I got on CL was a trade for a Tokina 12-24, which lacks the built in motor for af on my D5000. That's not ideal, but I would to play with a WA lens. Which lens is actually worth more/ more likely to maintain value?

The Tamron 28-75 and Tokina 12-24 both maintain their value well and are worth about the same.

May I ask you why you'd like to trade for the 12-24 though? It's a great ultrawide, but having AF is nice even on an ultrawide lens. Also, what do you dislike about your 28-75 that's driving you towards prime lenses? It's quite sharp for a zoom, and has a fast, constant aperture as well.

It's fairly fast, but never fast enough for concert work, and lacks the DOF I want. I found an 85 1.8 for $250 that would go well with a WA zoom. Thanks for that, I think I'll go ahead with it.

I'd never part with Tamron 28-70. I actually sold 24-70L and kept the Tamron.
12-24 is a superb lens to play with. The 12mm FF will give you a lot of fun, but in the long run you may find it less useful as time goes by.

There is Tamron 17-35, which I also have had for a while and I find it a very good compromise in terms of its usability, price and overall workload it gets.
