[1] The ThinkPad X230 should at some point get listed on Lenovo.com for purchase today, they're also going to be running a 15% off coupon THINK15X for today (June 5th 2012) only. That should bring the price of the Core i5-3210M Ivy Bridge model down to $850. There will also be a Core i3 Sandy Bridge config and that should be $806 after coupon. Standard pricing is $949 for Sandy Bridge starting and $999 for Ivy Bridge starting.

Not sure what hour of the day the X230 will show up, that's all the info I have, but figured some would like to know about this deal if you're trying to decide between X220 and X230 and price is a consideration.

Don't take this as a threadcrap, but I just can't see what is attractive about the tiny ass screen, the chicklet keyboard, the small and buggy trackpad?

I like stinkpads, but this one is a pass for me. And I'm seriously in the market for an ultrabook.

I can't get any of those coupons to work, and the site gives no feedback to let you know that it wasn't accepted and why. Has anyone else had any luck? Seems like they may already be on sale, so perhaps that's why they're not allowing codes.

THINK15X is still working for me.

To each his own ;)

But this will be very useful as desktop replacement with a dock or without using an external monitor, IMHO. And very portable when it is needed.

Sweet, didn't even see that one. I was only looking that codes in (2).

THINK15X -$179.10

Estimated total: $1,196.20*

Needs an SSD and 4GB RAM, but at $199 for 256GB SSD's are not an issue.

Anyone know if the X200 Ultrabase from an X201 would work with this?

Will the previous generations start increasing in price due to the better keyboards? I'm going to have to keep my eye on ebay. :p

If you think 12.5" is tiny I kind of doubt you are in the market for a ultraportable.

I think the x230 is a downgrade from the x220 but it's not a bad system. It has a IPS display which is pretty rare in ultraportables and the battery life with the optional 9 cell puts every ultrabook to shame.

I've owned a x220 for a year now and will never buy another 15.6" pos again after seeing how useful a portable laptop is.

Heh, perhaps. All the reviews I have read, have nothing bad to say about the new keyboard. I will surely miss the old keyboards, RIP ;)

With the all new ultrabooks with ips displays, do you think the ultrabook x230 and similar older versions are going to become less popular?

You could be right. I'm probably looking for the unicorn notebook or something, but I just can't see that small of a screen.

I'm typing this on an X220 and I'm very disappointed that the X230 has moved to a chicklet keyboard. The X220 keyboard is perfection.

Also, the IPS screen is great except for the lousy resolution. 768p is terrible. Terrible. I had a Dell m11x over five years ago that had a better LCD than this (800p). Has screen resolution really regressed in that time?

/rant

I'm sure the x230 is great. I just wish they could have stuck with the X220 keyboard and made an improvement on the screen.

Did not want to bring this back up, but wanted to comment on what others have said.

I have too agree with others. The new keyboard is a FAIL and a 16:10 IPS would have been nice. The last X series with a 16:10 panel is the x201. If you don't mind the new keyboard, the x230 is a very good machine.

I personally bought a x220 with IPS panel, the keyboard change is just too much for me; it even looks odd on a Thinkpad.

Edit: To clarify, I have not used the new keyboard; so perhaps the chiclet feels fine. Even if it looks out of place on a Thinkpad. But what I meant to say about the keyboard. Is that the layout is what FAILS the most about the new keyboard.

I recently switched to a ThinkPad X1, which has featured the chiclet keyboard for about a year now. The keyboard itself is fine, no complaints about key travel or typing experience. My only complaint is the Del key. It is up and out of the way, especially compared to the T410s I came from. I'm adjusting though. I also mildly miss the browser forward/back buttons next to the arrow keys. Otherwise the new design is just fine.
