Somehow I think the Kindle Fire's announced launch price has something to do with other Android tablets showing up for cheap.

This looks about a hundred times better than the Kindle Fire. 2 GB isn't even that big a deal if it has a microSD slot, but the prices are so low I may as well go for the 16 GB anyway. I believe two of them will be on my Christmas list this year!

Note that it's a single-core A8 and not a dual A9. Basically the same TI OMAP that's in the Galaxy Tab 7" wifi version (3G versions have the faster-GPU Hummingbird from the SGS1), original Droid X, etc.

Thanks for pointing that out. It's just a trade off. The Fire has a faster CPU, but it's very limited in storage and app selection since there's no Android Market. The hacking potential is doubtful as well since there's no SD slot.

This seems like basically a better version of the Nook Color. Probably end up being just as hackable, more useful out of the box, has cameras, expandable storage... I'd be willing to sacrifice some computing power for that and I suspect others would too.

So, a Nook Color with a GPS and cameras? Nice. This should make a great car computer :hmm:

Anyone know how well its "GPS navigation in offline mode" works?

Nothing to get excited about. If you're excited by this you should be jumping for joy at $299 HTC Flyer.

If you want a car computer original GSM 3g Galaxy Tab is still the one to get.

I haven't seen any GSM 3g galaxy tabs for less than $270 that hasn't involved a contract or billing shenanigans.
