Lenovo Excellent Warranty Service.

This is a bump for warranty service from Lenovo. I'm impressed. My Thinkpad dies early Wednesday morning 25 January 2012. Called 24/7 service in less than 15 minutes they advised they were over nighting a prepaid UPS shipper for me to send it out for Depot Warranty Service ( IBM EasyServ ). The empty box arrived 09:00 AM, 26 January 2012, I packed and sent the notebook out UPS by 10:30 AM, 26 January 2012. They received it 10:20 AM, 27 January 2012. Repaired and shipped from IBM Easyserv at 14:20 PM 27 January 2012 and back in service 08:30 AM 28 January 2012. 3 days start to finish. This is just the standard warranty.

I am impressed and very happy.

Cliffs:

26 Jan Notebook dies.
27 Jan Shipped out for repairs.
27 Jan Repaired and shipped back.
28 Jan received back fully working like new.

Glad to hear. Still hate Lenovo because they bought out IBM computers - unforgiveable 🙁

It's not like it was a hostile takeover or something, IBM sold it because the low-margin Pc business didn't align with management's vision for IBM.

I too was hummed out that IBM would no longer be a contender in the 'IBM Compatible' market, but IBM made that decision. Their hand was not forced by immediate financial concerns...

My refurbished T520 came with onsite service as a bonus. It wasn't listed in the laptop specs. The backspace key shorted with the "[" key, so they sent someone out the next day to meet me at school. No paperwork, no bullshit... I walked out to the parking lot with the laptop, we swapped the keyboard in about 2 minutes, and said our goodbyes. Can't beat that!

Apple makes you set an appointment, then they make you wait about an hour past the appointment time, then they say they need your laptop for 5 to 10 business days and act like they're doing you a favor. Believe me, I know from experience. I owned a MacBook and two MacBook Pros. For the business/power user, Apple's support is just garbage. Nothing really beats Lenovo/IBM on their ThinkPads. Also, I must give credit to Dell, too. If you have one of their upgraded warranties, Dell does a very good job, too. Totally worth the $50 or so to upgrade while buying new. I also know this from experience.

Tech support has come a long way... 🙂

I've never heard of ship to repair depot NBD. That were fast. Dell still has onsite NBD for most of their latitudes and some Vostros.

Last time I needed a new part, I just gave them the FRU. They shipped it next-day, and included a label inside so I could ship the defective part back to them.

Did this twice, with a creaky palmrest and a dead DVD drive. This was also with the standard warranty.

I remember once they shipped us a next day air prepaid box, we shipped the laptop to them in the morning and we had it back by the end of the day.

I also called in a few months ago for a keyboard and asked them to send it to me so I could replace it, and they did without hesitation.

In a nutshell, ThinkPad service = the best.

I've had service people out a lot recently repairing ThinkPads, and as they almost never are able to repair the laptops the next day, I decided to check the wording of their warranty. It states they will make a best effort. I guess that's all they really can do, but I've had times in the last few months where the tech doesn't make it onsite for a week, or the parts aren't shipped for several days, or the wrong parts are shipped and have to wait for the correct parts, or...

It's getting old, and people are asking me why we stick with them as non-techies aren't impressed by the Thinkpads. They all want macbook air style ultrabooks or tablets. :\ In fact one person today told me he doesn't want a "tank" like that T420s.

At least they know they're built like tanks 😛 People get the notion that all Thinkpads have outdated hardware since they're not flashy or anything, but I'm just satisfied knowing that mine won't break if I accidentally drop it on a desk.
