I don't need the sound of my car to be artificially enhanced. I don't see how the stock exhaust system is "fake." If the sound is muffled, that's hardly artificially enhancing it. If you're the type who modifies his exhaust so its louder, enjoy driving you fake car, I guess.
A lot of performance cars have 'tuned' sounds. It's not 'fake.' It's simply that they put effort into attaining certain sonic qualities. It has nothing to do with volume.
Not pulling a generic econo-car muffler out of a parts bin and sticking it on a performance car isn't some kind of 'lie.' It's just making the car not sound like shit. Even your lumpy-cammed, rumbly, throaty V8's can sound like utter shit with the wrong muffler. That's why the aftermarket for them is so huge and diverse.
The only valid argument is against someone who modifies their car to attain a certain (generic) sound, despite hurting performance. i.e. Flowmaster.
