I tried Google and found that it does help if accompanied by exercise. Just wanted to know anyone's first hand experience.

You (and your derp of a trainer) are missing the point.
Loosing weight (and gaining muscle for that matter) is mainly a function of 2 things, but mostly just 1: Diet. (lifting weight being the other)
Loosing fat is controlled almost exclusively by diet, because such few people out there have the time or will power to burn enough calories through exercise alone. Adding some "honey to your tea" isn't going to do jack shit for you. In fact, it will make things worse all things equal, because honey is quite calorie dense.
Do yourself a favor and ditch the trainer, he doesn't want you to succeed anyway. He wants your money.
