As with all Target sales, YMMV

I just got back from Target where I picked up the "LEGO Electronic Track and Train Set", normally $160, for $80. I was also able to buy the three other lego train cars that were carried at my Target for 50% off as well (prices ranged from $8-$13 I think). Cheap lego anytime is a steal, and getting a nice looking train set for my kids is a bonus.

I also heard a rumor (no clue if it is true or not) that Lego may not be selling the train sets in the stores in the future, and they might become a catalog only item. This information came from a family relative who buys a TON of lego, but they were not 100% sure if it was true or not. Either way though is still a deal imho.

Hope this helps someone else out there considering some of the deals I have managed to take advantage of because of this board alone...

BTW, I think this is a link to Target for the set I just purchased:

Edit 1 - Spelling
Edit 2 - Added Link to Target

it just includes two train cars?

Those train cars normally sell for $15-$20 in the catalog so I guess it isn't that expensive.

The set included the engine, a coal car, and a passenger car. I just found another link on the Target site which shows a picture of the box:

Hope that helps.

If I understood Fatbaby's question - The set for $80 came with the following (copied from the target link above):

Product Description
All aboard the LEGO Express! With this set you can build your own electronic train track and decide where your train travels--through the mountains, along the coast or in the city! A Target exclusive, this set from LEGO includes everything you need to make it happen. Contains 469 pieces, including wire clips and the 60 Hz engine you need to make everything go. Comes with a transformer, connector plate and speed regulator. Requires 120 VAC (60 Hz) household electrical outlet. Ages 8 and up. Imported.

According to the above this set is a Target exclusive, which probably explains why I could not find any info on the set at lego.com.

I looked at the Train configurator on Lego.com, and the train engine (with motor, light and tender) and the extra passenger car would cost $90 alone. Getting everything else is like icing on the cake.

btw Target opens today?

I think that set includes a locomotive, tender, passenger car, a motor, lights, and a speed regulator along w/ the station and tracks. $160 seems like a correct retail price considering Lego has been fairly expensive lately. But yeah those locomotives arent my type, I'm about to purchase the Santa Fe set tho...but damn, $221!

The Santa Fe set looks nice too... but since I am just starting (future gift for son who is 5) and am not picky at the moment, I'll happily save the $80 with this set for now. I get the feeling though this might be the start of many purchases over time though.

a little bump:

There are a dozen of them left at the target in pasedena (old fedco)...also, the train accessories were 50% off too (this was $7) But its a ymmv. A target down the street had the set for $120 and no train cars in stock.

Several Targets in the greater LA area also has 50% off many Lego sets. All train sets are 50% off (including the My Own Train, and the 4561 Railway Express @ $50). I also saw the soccer challenge sets for $15 (reg. $50) at the Durate Target. The star wars 7163 Republic Gunship is $45, Mindstorm Invention 2.0 is $99, various Star Wars sets are 50% off as well, some Harry Potter and Star Wars Technic figures also at 50% off.

The Lego trains were also pretty expensive. Thats pretty darn hot. I wish they made the sets like they did in the late 80s early 90s. The sets used to have lots of pieces. Now they don't give you that much. I still have 3 huge bins full of Legos from when I used to play with them. It's always cool just to build a model now and again.
