Legend of Zelda - Link to the Past

I'm playing this on my SNES. I just finished getting the sword, and now I go back to the castle to beat the wizard, but I can't figure out how. The clue is that he can't be beaten by phsyical weapons, and I'm suppose to turn his power back on him, or something.

I tried the mirror, but it's only good for teleporting. I also tried the shield (1 upgrade - reflects fireballs) but that didn't seem to work. Anyone remember?

You have to hit certain fireballs he shoots back at him with your sword...I think the round ones.

Kinda like in teh Gameboy version near the end.

Deflect the fireballs back at him... Then when he goes invisible you have to light up the lanterns and hit him with the silver arrows.

Use the net to reflect his fireballs.

He's not talking about Ganon, but rather the dude in Hyrule (light world) Castle. However, you're correct that you use the Master Sword to deflect his bolts. He shoots three types: a lightning thing, which you can't block so just dodge it; a ball compsed of smaller balls that breaks apart if you hit it, just dodge this too; and a bolt composed of a line of glowing circles of decreasing size. This third one will bounce back if you hit it with the Master Sword.

ah, thanks guys. Yeah, it's Hyrule, I think. I'll try it out.

I tried to find some walkthroughs, but the game is really old and all the google hits were for the gameboy version (but I guess it's pretty similar) or just random tips, not full guides. Sorry for posting on the wrong forum. I considered software, but that seemed more catered to PC games/apps and linux type stuff - my bad.

ha, can't believe so many people remember it. but then again, it's hard to believe i'm still playing SNES

You have to write your own "h@x" to defeat him.

he shoots lightning, this blackish blueish orb, and a colorful one

deflect the colorful one with a net or your master sword

Aganhim, or something similar, and yes, the poster above me got it. Whack the orbs back at him with your sword.
Also similar to defeating Phantom Ganon in Ocarina of Time.
