Let me first say that I own a PS2, and no other systems, so I am totally not being biased by my opinion. When I had first seen some screen shots of the cartoon looking Zelda, I thought that it was going to be horrible. Well, after seeing it in motion, the game looks like a cartoon and personally, I think its gonna be an awesome, if not groundbreaking game. Just as Zelda 64 cause me to buy a N64, I'm sure this game will make me get a Gamecube. Here is the Link -- Pun was not intended

I played Zelda back when it was on Nintendo and Gameboy. I just don't think I'd like the cartoony way they've done it. He looks like a toddler carrying a sword way too big for him.

its looks pretty cool cause im a big fan of zelda but the the video quite nicely sums up the big problem with GC, if you watch closely everytime link hits something with a sword the system lags out, this same thing happens inmost gc games, rouge spear is especially prone to halts if you take the y-wing and strafe a star destryoer and drop some bombs the system will grind to a halt. its lame and really detracts from the experience.

I noticed the lag too, but I just figured that it was from still needing 8 months or so of work. If that lag doesn't change (which according to you it sounds like it won't) my feelings about this game just took a complete 180.

I noticed the same thing. I hope they'd smooth out the issue before going gold. If they didn't, that would be just plain sloppy - especially for a tier1 developer.

Wow, that really is pretty bad.

Just wait till it comes out. The game is looking extremely beautiful, but yes it needs more polishing. It's got months and months left, just wait they'll fix that.

I imagine that they will fix that problem with Zelda. One of, if not, the most anticipated game on the GameCube. Something like this I would rather them hold off a little longer to fix that problem. Some of the previous games probably have this problem due to the games being rushed for deadline to get games out the door for launch. I don't think it's the system that's doing it.

Remember when the Playstation first came out. Games were choppy and slow, but as developers worked more and found cheats and tricks to programing the games got way better. Look at Final Fantasy 7 and 8. Those are huge improvements over the first games that came out for it.

True, but realize that the slowdown issue also existed in the original NES, the SNES, and the N64. It rarely (if ever) showed in Nintendo's retail first party games (it will probably be much less prevalent in the final version of Zelda, if not gone altogether), but it happened a lot in earlier games from third parties. A bit after the systems were new, it all but disappeared. It seems that as developers get better at making games for Nintendo's systems, the problem goes away.

As someone already said, there are still 6 - 8 months of development time left on Zelda.

As to my opinion on the game, I am quite torn. I do not really like the cel-shaded version of Zelda. The original version of the graphical look was much better, and Link was an adult, or at least in his late teens. Last I heard, this Zelda game will be almost comic, and it looks like it is geared towards kids.

I am also wondering why this game (and Majora's Mask) have Link still as a kid. I would much rather be playing as an adult, like in Ocarina of Time.

I grew up playing Zelda, from the original on the NES, to the ones on the N64, and the Gameboy ones in between. If the series is going to continue in this "childish" manner, I don't think that I'm going to be liking Zelda much longer.

That delay is definitely intentional. They did the exact same thing in the N64 game to emphasize when en enemy is dead.
To blame a pause at a very specific event in a game on hardware fault is just foolish.

Now that I look at it, you are right. It isn't lag. Lag is slowing down, that is definitely a pause. It seems though that it is meant to function in the manner of the pause in the N64 games (i.e. pause when enemy is killed), but it seems to pause on every hit currently. Maybe they need to tweak when it actually causes the pause.

I guess it all boils down to personal preference, but I still think the game looks incredibly lame. The cartoonish characters just look stupid to me.

I considered getting the Gamecube at one point just because I knew there would be a new Zelda game for it, but after seeing what they've done I could not be more unimpressed. Big step backwards, IMO.

You're right, that looks HORRIBLE. I think the greatest Zelda game ever was Link to the Past, but since then it's gone bad.

oh come on, if you dont buy it for zelda look at the star wars game, the explosions suck when you blow up something little cubes fly out now actual debries, the developers knew that the gc couldnt handle it, the fire on the explosion are really terrible sprites, and like i said try bombing a star destryoyer when you are close to it the game speed will lag down to 5-6 fps.

I dunno, I'll love Nintendo and everything associated with Miyamoto til I die.......obviously that isn't lag that you're seeing in the game, rather ridiculous to think it was......but yeah, the cel shading of everything looks odd, especially in a captured video. Hopefully things will be better by the release date, but I'm sure the gameplay will kick ass.

just IMHO

Im sorry, but as far as Im concerned, Zelda on the 64 rocked, I would have expected something even more graphically advanced from there, not a freakin cartoon.... sorry Nintendo, Im no longer 10. I will be purchasing a PS2.

1: Did anyone else notice that the music from the video originated from the movie Conan the Barbarian? I believe the song was called 'The Kitchen + The Orgy'
2: Why are you people focusing so much on how it looks like? Big deal, so it doesn't look like the other games. Most Zelda games don't look like their previous counterparts anyways. Big deal, so it doesn't look realistic. I doubt the fantastic gameplay which it will surely have could have been done if the graphics were made more realistic. Besides, who bases a game on graphics?! Good gawd, you people still play SNES on occasion, don't you?

I can say that I was disappointed when I found out Nintendo was going with the cartoonish look for Zelda, but nonetheless... I will be buying a Gamecube to be able to play this. If I've got 6-8 months before its release, then I still have time to get my missing N64 back and beat Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask. I was hoping for the same graphics style that Ocarina of Time used or more realistic, but you take what you can get.

1. The cartoonish character sucks.
2. The spin swing looks pretty cool.
3. The game will be nonetheless pretty cool overall.
4. I noticed the lag also.

I absolutely hated the new design of Link and everything else. I wanted the stuff that showed off the power of the hardware before the GameCube was released, with an incredibly realistic Link fighting an incredibly realistic Gannondorf. Guess not. Even though I do not like the pansy Link, I know the gameplay is going to be really good.
