I had no idea the game was out, I thought it was still in the works for a while. User reviews seem positive. I love the Avatar universe enough that I'm 99% sure I'll be buying it today.

Edit: I only wish someone would make a game set in the Avatar universe, with a previous Avatar used as the main character (so the story can be fresh and new). A open world setting (or close enough), Arkham games style combat, and Mass Effect's dialogue. Somebody make this happen!

interested enough to look, not feeling like I want to play something that seems geared towards needing a control pad to play.

Definitely seems to be for the fans, but not the common gamer. My GF and I are fans but I'm a bit cautious about spending even $15 on it.

I'm a big fan of the series, but I'll hold off some some reviews before dropping money.

Does the series pick up? I stopped watching after the two excellent episodes about the first avatar in the second season. I just couldn't stand Korra.

Yes the series does pick up! Season 3 and 4 is the best one yet. I highly recommend everyone give Avatar a watch. But seriously, don't bother with the game, it's freaking terrible imo.

How is it terrible? Steam ratings seem pretty decent so far, 93% positive to 7% negative.

If you have seen the series you will most likely not like the game imo. Play it for yourself and don't rely on reviews.

watch some of the let's play vids on YT. the basic gameplay looks like a bit of button mash combos for each element, with a good mix of area/long-range/finish attacks and a enemy counter system. they throw in a mini racing game where you ride Naga. I only watched the first few levels, but it looks deep enough that i'll probably pick it up on a $5 steam sale.

some of the environment is a bit sparse with only crate/jars/cars that you smash for coins/spirit pts to fill the space. mostly so that you have enough clear space to fight. the effects look nice, and the movement seems free enough.

i'd be interested in seeing how good some people can get with using combos while switching the 4 elements.
