I don't consider the disarming of our population to be a illegitimate concern. There are people in our government who would do it were they able to gather enough support. Thankfully that isn't a huge concern at present as the anti-gunners have been handed quite a few setbacks in the last few years. I still don't want my name on a list and have the feds come around years later to collect them to protect me from myself.

Yea thats what i thought. Look out! Registration says nothing about "disarming" the populace. Its a start to preventing *transfer* to "criminals and the mentally unsound." Buy all the fucking guns you want. I dont care. I care about guns that end up in the hands of "criminals and the mentally unsound." If you transfer one to "criminals and the mentally unsound" you should go to jail along with them. Or if your gun ends up in a rubbish bin, go to jail. Gun control is *not* disarming. Yes, i know, your gun nut pundits have you told you differently, but thats not the case. Sorry to burst your conspiracy bubble.

Atleast here in CA, it is illegal to transfer private party to private party so transfer to criminals and the mental is moot.

as for gun confiscation, did you know the federal government issued an order confiscating and banning almost all private gold coin/bullion ownership in the 1930s?

If you liked living in a "gun free" society, you should have stayed in England. "rubbish bin" indeed.

You've been to NY lately? (especially the city?)
(honestly though, I haven't looked at the laws, nor do I own a gun, but NY being NY, I would imagine the laws are pretty strict especially around the city :p)

NYC laws are definitely more restrictive than anywhere else in the US, except Chicago, and D.C.

But if you jump through the loops, you can still have a handgun to defend your home. You have to be rich and powerful to get a permit to carry it though. :(
