left4dead Mic source issue

my mic is plugged in the front panel of my Audigy 2 ZS Platinum.
Makes it easier to plug/unplug as needed.

In left4dead, I can set things up either in Steam or the game itself, and the mic works fine using the build in test.
as soon as a level completes though (safehouse) the game seems to force the mic back to the read mic input.

This basically makes voice chat unusable, but I can;t seem to find a way to fix it. Is this just a game bug and I can't do a thing about it?

it is basically the same issue.
I didn't even realize that L4D was built on the Source engine, so there is a good chance this fix will work. I'll try it when I get home.

FYI, in the meantime I found a potential bandaid: http://www.muvenum.com/products/freeware/
This freeware monitors your input and forces it back to your choice, so I'll try that if the config change doesn't work.
