I starting playing soccer recently and on tuesday, while doing some light running to loosen up for a game, the ligament on the outside of my knee gave me this weird feeling. It felt almost like something was brushing up on it. I originally thought it was the end part of my sock rubbing against my skin, but after i moved everything away, I realized it was my knee doing this.

there isnt any pain at all, but it does feel weird. almost like the feeling when you get shocked by something and your muscles spas.

It mostly happens when I bend my knee. if I walk, it may happen like 20% of the time, but when bending the knee more, such as running, it becomes like 50- 60%

i tried to stretch it by doing this method (only pic i could find)

knee_stretch.jpg

to no avail.

Looking at images on google, the anatomy of the knee points to the LCL giving me the issue.

so what can I do?

should i ignore it and hope it goes away? Since there isnt any pain, i dont see a reason to see a doctor

Is it just an annoying feeling? Your IT band is also on that side of your leg so that's more likely the culprit for giving you a really weird feeling rather than your LCL, which is pretty limited in its movement. I'd say start doing some foam rolling and stretches for your IT band. Warm up sufficiently before your workout and strengthen your quads. Here's a link for stretching it - it's at the bottom of the page: http://www.chiropractic-help.com/Iliotibial-Band-Stretch.html

Hmmm that could be it. The link you posted said as an example of why people can get this is because standing on one foot like kicking a soccer ball.may explain my problem. Il try the stretching out and see if it helps. Thanks!

Yeah, kicking and running in particular can elicit some weird IT band symptoms, especially if it's tight. Come back and let us know how it feels in a few days.
