I see you have about hit your limit on the number of useful posts you can manage in one thread.

There's not really anything more to say. Some people apparently need a pet issue to rail against, and L4D2 fits the bill for now. It's their business if they've decided to write the game off in advance, even if it makes no sense to me. If it's a good game, I want to play it; if it's bad, I don't. We won't know that for some months, so discussion about the game's quality, worth, or effect on the existing L4D community at this point is moot.

This is simply punctuated by BTRY B 529th FA BN making a retarded joke and then lollin' at his own brilliance. Kind of a meta summary of this circle jerk thread.

Yeah, that's a pretty accurate description.

Sure, I'll boycott too. I mean that's mainly because I never liked the original.

I got suckered into the hype for L4D and pre-ordered last year so I could play the demo. Now I realize how dumb it is and won't fall for it twice. A demo is supposed to be a teaser that gives potential buyers a glimpse of the full game so they can hopefully be swayed to buy it. This goes all the way back to shareware days where you'd get the first episode of Doom free and have to pay $30 to play the other two.

What good does it do to offer it to only the people who have already paid for the full product? I know there will be plenty of people who bite the carrot and pre-purchase just so they can play part of the game a week or two early. Do that if you want but make a demo publicly available upon release so those on the fence can decide before buying. I won't be buying L4D2 until I play a demo of it.

are you guys sure? i swear i NEVER pre-ordered L4D and i was able to play the demo on steam up until the game's release date. then they disabled the demo.

so this whole L4D2 demo rubbish is new to me. makes zero sense.

Quake3 is everything Quake1 should have been, therefor I shouldn't have to pay for it. Halo 2 is everything Halo 1 should have been, therefor I shouldn't have to pay for it. Warcraft 3 is everything Warcraft 1 should have been, therefor I shouldn't have to pay for it. I'm retarded.

preordering L4D allowed people to play the demo before it became free to the public

of course if someone is dumb enough not to read the fine print then that's their fault

Early access to the Left 4 Dead demo for people who pre-ordered the game began on November 6, 2008, for both Windows and Xbox 360. It gave users access to both online and single-player play in two "scenes" in one "movie" within the game. This promotion was being offered in addition to the ten percent savings for those who pre-order and applies to all Steam Windows pre-orders and all Windows and Xbox 360 pre-orders from GameStop and EB Games in North America.[50] On November 11, the Left 4 Dead demo was made available to all Windows and Xbox 360 gamers worldwide.[51] The Left 4 Dead demo was removed for both the Xbox 360 and Windows after the game's release on November 18 2008.

yeah that would make 99% of us dumb, but still not dumber than the people who pre-order to play the demo.

I remember when the L4D pre-order demo hit last year and there were 3-4 guys on IRC just raving about how awesome it was, which forced me to pre-order it right then and there so that I could partake in the pre-order demo.

I haven't regretted my decision even once.

the game will be 25 bucks on steam in no time so stop complaining. If it is so important to you that you can't wait for a deal on steam then pay the 50 bucks.

If it's $15 or lower on a weekend I'll buy it otherwise not. I didn't get my $45 worth at all and I'm always very careful when I buy games.

Programmers shouldn't get paid, they should just do it out of the kindness of their souls obviously.

Programmers shouldn't get paid, they should just do it out of the kindness of their souls obviously.

I gave them $45 for the game, with the understanding that the following was coming after release:

The company plans to add new scenarios to the game's initial 4, as well as new bosses and weapons.

..strong hints at a flamethrower coming not long after launch.

...also promised that the studio aims to make the DLC available more quickly than they have done with TF2.

That article is dated Aug 2008 and is based on details released by Valve employee Chet Faliszek.

How can you not expect people to hold Valve to these statements? This was far enough before L4D's launch that it became wide spread knowledge and no doubt made Valve some additional sales. Can you honestly say they've come close to any of them? We've seen one new campaign, one small map, and one new game mode.

Most realize that plans change and Valve can take their sweet time. But before we even got our first true DLC it was announced that L4D2 was in development for release later this year with many of the features included that were promised to us as L4D DLC. To those who feel that the $50 they paid a year ago already includes part of that content why is it so hard to understand their unwillingness to pay another $50?

No one is expecting "infinite free content" and that's idiotic to even suggest. Valve set the expectations, not the consumers.
