LED's are confusing???

I am installing a PCChips Slot 1/Socket 370 M756T+ motherboard... I have the manual right here, but I'm a little hazy on the placement of LED's to J8. It's not that I don't understand the placement of the connectors, but I am having trouble knowing which direction to face them. Is there an easy way to tell?

Welcome to AT! If I remember correctly, on PC Chips boards, the positive (colored wire) faced the left hand side (or bottom) of the board. (That is to say if you had the ATX connectors toward the back, and you were looking at the front edge.) Good Luck!

The great thing about them though is that if they don't work you can simply swap them around with no damage! (usually) Depends on the motherboard.

When you say "bottom of the board, do you mean towards the power supply or towards the back of the computer? because with this LED motherboard connection not only do the pins run horizontally, but they also run vertically. 😕

There's usually a arrow above one wire, I can't remember if it means positive or negitive though. Maybe someone else knows.

Pin Display looks like this...
---------------------------------------------------------------------
--Pow-LED-----Keylock-----------Reset--Pow-switch-
----2-4-6---------8-10---------------17-18----21-22----
--___|___---__|__------------__--_|_--__--_|_-------------
-|[o]-[o]-[o]|-|[o]--[o]|--[o]-[o]-|[o]|-|[o]|-|[o]|-|[o]|----
-__________
-|[o]--[o]-[o]--[o]|-------[o] [o]--|[o]|-|[o]|-|[o]|-|[o]|---
___________--------------------|----------|------------------
-----Speaker--------------------HDD----ACPI-----------------
------1-3-5-7--------------------15-16----19-20-------------
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Amazing, the things you can make when you're waiting for a reply😀
If you can see, the pins on the left run horizontally, and the pins on the right run vertically. Please let me know if you can help me with this, thank you...

I don't think the orientation really matters except for the hard drive led. On my old motherboard, I had the hard drive connector on backwards for almost a year, and the power connector facing the same way. The power light would come on, but not the hard drive light. I figured it out when I read the manual for the connections, and flipped them both. The power light still worked, and the hard drive light came on too. I don't think it will hurt anything if you plug it in backwards, but don't sue me if I'm wrong. 😀

Based on your diagram, try putting the colored wire for the HDD LED on pin 15 with the white wire on 16. For the power LED, put the colored wire on pin 2 with the white wire toward pin 6. If that doesn't work, just switch them around. I am almost certain you will not harm anything by haveing the polarity reversed.

Puddy, is not listening to our response! I told him the same thing earlier. The fact is it probably doesn't matter. Plug them in one way and if it doesn't work swap it around!

I am listenning to your response, however, I think you would agree that it is likely that someone might know more about LED's. I am considering my options, and weighing the consequencing... Thank you! PS Thank you compudog for your indepth answer to my question!

Puddy, there's no need to bump this thread as many times as you did. Everyone has already given you the answer. Put the LEDs one way. If they don't light up, turn it around. No harm will come to them. This is what I do with all my new boards based on the silk screening. I don't even use the manual anymore. It doesn't matter.

Looks like I'm not being taken seriously. When I placed this question I continued my search online while waiting for answers to a specific question of how LED's from the case might connect to the J8 pins on the motherboard. I would check in from time to time just to see if anyone made a good effort. When someone replies, I expect that they would reply to my question and not to state their opinion on the way I go about getting it. If you don't like the question, don't reply... Thank you! I will not bump this again...

Let me compile some answers to your question then:

How many answers do you need?
