Why, because I'm old enough to actually remember hearing some of their music in first release and can put it into context of its era? I have no problem giving them a "lifetime achievement" award even though they've been dead for 25 years and Robert Plant hasn't done anything worthwhile except for a crappy turn in the bastard child band "The Firm" a few years ago.

But for crying out loud, if you're going to give a "lifetime achievement" award, you'd think the band would have put out some new music within the living memory of a good portion of the viewing audience. There were actually *gasp* other bands and musicians who were contemporaries of Led Zep in the era which have given as much to the rock genre and for a longer period than Led Zeppelin did. How about Neil Young? Or better yet, Peter Gabriel for both his solo work and time with Genesis?

Robert Plant was never in The Firm. That was Paul Rodgers from Bad Company and Jimmy Page. Done yet?

The Who and Jimi Hendrix.

Jethro Tull as well.

Or Neil Young.

Good catch.

What about Black Sabbath as well? They were around back then.

Yes, which was already corrected in my OP before you even pointed it out. But you seem to have your opinions set on the matter, just like you do in the "Patriots will kill Indianapolis" thread. Everyone else will simply scratch their heads and say "why are they giving a lifetime achievement award to Led Zep" for the reasons I stated. Why not give one to Elvis why you're at it, he seems to meet the main qualifiers this year of being dead for a couple of decades from substance abuse (just like Joplin and Bonham) and is to me unarguably more important to rock music. AND at least he's had a song released in the last decade or two, even if it was as a remix.

Sheesh, talk about idiocy.

Zep achieved more in the 11 years they were together than most bands do if they stay together for 20 years.

Zep is the greatest rock band ever, and that is all there is to it.

Why are they getting that award? Because they earned it.
