I'm looking to expand my music collection and since I've always been kinda curious about Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd I was hoping some people here could fill me in on what their music is like.

I like songs that have strong basslines or vintage keyboard playing (The Doors, Incubus)

Can anyone give me a rundown on the mentioned groups and what their best songs are?

Also if you can recommed some good music I'd appreciate it

oh yeh I also love soul-jazz (Bob James, Grover Washington Jr, Herbie Hancock, Ronnie Laws, etc..)

Have you listened to Fragil, by Yes, It has some great keyboard/guitar work. I really wouldn't recomend a single cut, you need the alblum.

For the full effect of Pink Floyd, you'll need whole albums. Dark Side of the Moon and Wish You Were Here should get you started. :) Enjoy.

Pink Floyd definently come in Full Albums. I also suggest Dark Side of the Moon and Wish You Were Here. Though just about any pink floyd is very very good.

For Led Zeplin, here are my favorites (off the top of my head):

Stairway to Heaven
Dazed and Confused
Kashmire
Over the Hills and Far Away
Black Dog

Led Zeppelin Rocks! Can't go wrong with just about any of their stuff. Live at the BBC is sooo good.

My favorite zeppelin song is No Quarter.

NO, for the full effect you'll need marijuana. And can we see another post recommending Zep's Stairway to Heaven?

Floyd, the ultimate in Progressive & Classic Rock. The Gods of Music. Where do I start...? Well... I would suggest a new listener get 'The Wall' album & listen to it through & through a few times. Believe me. It grows on you. Floyd have been known for their concept albums (like Beatles - Sgt. Peppers Lonely Heart Club Band) & so the songs shouldn't be heard in a random order. Great tracks of the album are Brick In The Wall Part 2 (the MOST Commerical & Over-rated Floyd song), Comfortably Numb (arguably one of the best they ever made), Mother & Hey You, along with a lot more. After you're done with Wall, get Dark Side Of The Moon & Wish You Were Here. You could also go in for the Double Live album - P.U.L.S.E. Recorded in Oct. '95, it includes Floyds greatest hits Live. A great album.

Moving on to Zeppelin, their best album till date is 4 (also called ZOSO / 4 symbols). It contains classics such as Black Dog, Rock N' Roll & Stairway To Heaven. To get into the groove of Zep, I would suggest the Remasters 2 CD set.

And No. You don't need to be stoned to enjoy music.

Floyd is excellent.

Zeppelin will surprise you if you listen to all of it. They have the reputation of being the original heavy metal gods, but they really weren't. Probably half of their stuff is acoustic and blues. Very diverse.
No group has been like them, before or since.

Arkitech, you asked for strong basslines. If you don't mind trying something a touch heavy, get your hands on some Iron Maiden. No, they are NOT Satanic as lots of people tend to believe. The music DOES tend to get a tad repititive though (especially the basslines), but they play real good stuff! They're a great band! For starters I'd recommend the songs 'Fear of the Dark' & 'Hallowed Be Thy Name'. Get the 'Best of the Beast' album (obviously a compilation). The group is still pretty active. Their last album 'Brave New World' was released mid-last year, & it rocks ;)
