LED LCD vs. LCD

Is the LED LCD really worth the extra 400.00? I am looking at the same size TV, 55" Vizio, the LED LCD is 1399.99 and the LCD is only 999.99. The price doesnt really matter but is it worth the extra cash? How much better is it?

My dad just bought a 55'' Samsung LED LCD and truthfully, the picture is nicer IMO – better contrast and color, things like that.

I suggest going in to your local BestBuy or something and seeing some in person.

It's also way lighter. Especially the 55" model. In my opinion the picture is more crisp, however if you don't watch a great deal of TV, maybe the $400 is better spent elsewhere. My parents also have the 55" Samsung, it was on sale at Fry's. The picture is gorgeous, puts my sharp aquos to shame, but I only watch like 4 shows a week, so I can live with it.

If its using edge-lit technology, its not really worth it. The main selling points with edge-lit LED is their slim profile and lower power consumption.

Yeah like a Sony PS3 and/or Blu-ray player.

Only other spec that is differnent is the LED LCD is 240Hz and the LCD is 120Hz. Also the LED one comes with the internet apps and crap. That doesnt really matter to me because I dont think I will ever use the.

For me, the LED upgrade would be worth it. Black levels are much better, which means better color all around. However, the phrase "to each his own" really comes into play here. IMO, if you're one to buy a TV and never touch the out-of-box picture settings, then just save the $400 because you'll probably never notice the difference.

This

Edge-lit is not better for pq, only full-array backlit is. Edge-lit sometimes can be worse than normal lcd because they are more prone to uneven backlit bleed.

You get what you pay for. I have an Edge Lit Samsung mid-level model LED LCDTV and love it. It is much much brighter than standard LCDs I saw at the store. It's also incredibly thin and blacks look great. Just my opinion. My set is almost a year old and I haven't had a single issue with it.

I would never buy Edge Lit LED...
Back Lit LEDs supposedly better than CCFL's but diference in quality isn't worth difference in $$$....

Don't need ever to pay attention to Hz markings on TV's No one will notice any difference between 120 and 240 unless you're a bird....

I'd get the 999$ CCFL LCD.

Then again, if spending 1400$ doesn't matter, then go look at Sony or Samsung LCDs, not Vizio.

WG-CCFL's have better color gamut than WLEDs. I wish my Apple LED Cinema had 120Hz input and an RGB LED. Then it would be perfect.

Doesn't matter since neither is as good any plasma in the same size or price range.
