The fact that so many give LBJ a pass for his childish and immature behavior is really quite remarkable. If Kobe had done this there would have been a massive uproar, and don't even begin to argue otherwise.

Who has given him a free pass? I keep hearing people say that, yet everyone keeps knocking him for it (I love how the media says no one is saying what he did was bad, yet all of them are just echoing the same thing).

I agree, it was not a classy move, however I don't think its that big of a deal. Considering how he's been the rest of the time, I think its ridiculous to make him a pariah over it. I'm not saying give him a free pass, but the backlash this is getting is a bit over the top in my opinion.

LeBron is probably one of the most team oriented superstars ever. You can tell when he jokes around with teammates it's legit (unlike any interaction with Kobe and a teammate), and he is by far one of the least selfish players on the court. He ALWAYS chooses an open teammate if available. Too bad he kept doing that in game 6 and saw two of his teammates jack air balls.

Bill Simmons (by far my favorite sports reporter, and very knowledgeable) actually compares him to Magic as the two best superstar teammates EVER! The thing is, no man becomes a superstar unless a) they are ridiculously competitive and b) they are cocky as shit. Anyone who thinks Dwight/Duncan aren't cocky is insane. Hell the "Duncan face" is practically a meme. Some players handle their competitiveness better than others, and LeBron obviously handled this badly. Did this happen the last 3 years he got bounced from the playoffs?

People rarely hate others who they have a ton of respect for, in fact its usually quite the opposite. 'We always like those who we respect, but don't always respect those who we like.'

I'm sure some players hated playing 'for' Jordan, but actual hate for his character would be misclassified imo. He didn't have the Magic or Lebron personality, but few do. He was indeed more business-like with many players, but his strong personality made others work hard to gain respect from. I would bet there's not a single player on the planet who gained Jordan's respect yet still hated him (and would bet there are many that didn't gain his respect who came to resent him.)

The fight you're referring to was when he punched Steve Kerr when Kerr decided he wasn't going to take Jordan's elbows in practice anymore. Jordan called him up that night with a sincere apology, and had more respect for Kerr after that. Not any 'hate' there tho and according to Kerr (iirc) it was a bit of a turning point in their relationship and never happened again.

I think at some point Lebron will regret not shaking Orlando's hands. I'm somewhat shocked by his stance about it because I've always seen him skin-up opponents after regular-season games. He also missed the opportunity to wish them well in representing the eastern conference.

As for the league not fining him for his disappearance, expect that to be the only free pass in that regard.

and seeing how stubborn and arrogant he is, i doubt he will ever admit it.

he won't own up to a mistake, just like when he denied he traveled when doing his crab dribble.

lots of discussion here, right or wrong in his actions we cannot forget the main point, which is Lebron will never be as big of a douche as Kobe. It's important we always remember who the real douche in the NBA is. Lebron just had a bad day ;)

there was a game during the playoffs (i forgot which, maybe orlando game 2), that he amazingly admitted after the game to traveling and the refs had the right call. he didnt say it was a crab move or whatever, he said flat out "i traveled"

of course, he was in a great mood seeing he won that game. (it may be game 2, he hit that buzzer beater)

Yep... he said it pretty 'unabashedly' too.

There will be cracks in James' armor along the way, no doubt, but I think he's shown a savvy ability and desire to better himself as he goes along. He was a fantastic embassador in the world's and olympics lately, and he's been too good a kid to become a d!ckhead diva at this point imo.

Once he has some private conversations with people like Magic, Jordan, Woods, or Jeter, etc. they'll straighten his @ss out in a heartbeat in what it means to be a man after having lost. (especially at the end of a series...all of the ballers have walked out on the media at some point.)

On the other hand if he doesn't learn from this experience, my current impression of him will definitely be tainted. Its a fundamental issue in sportsmanship to congratulate your opponent, and given his popularity and 'worldwide brand', its a sh!tty example to youth and others to not do it.

Kobe had Shaq, who was also the #1 star on the Lakers. Who does LeBron have?

Also, Kobe's played 13 years, LeBron's played 6.

And the Lakers have been in the finals twice since Shaq...edit-oh wait, three times now. How many times have the Cavs been there?

How many times did they win the finals since shaq left? I forgot....

What about Shaq? He's a limelight-seeking, mean-spirited buffoon, yet has 4 rings.

There are many athletes who are pricks, and also champions.

mean-spirited? shaq is no doubt the best PERSONALITY in the nba circuit now, and probably top 5 evers. read his tweets? the access he, as a $$$$$ mega celeb, gives to his fans is unprecedented. and hes not doing it for publicity -- hes already got all the money, fame, nba success, that one can achieve.

Yeah, nevermind that he's trashed about every coach he's played for, former team-mates, among other things (stalking some woman last summer). He's had his issues the same as anyone else.

Kobe deserved being trashed, FYI

I've heard that LeBron has a man-crush on Kevin Garnett, and the Celtics may give KG about 20 games off next year so he'll be very healthy for 2010, whereupon the Celts will sign LeBron in an attempt to win a championship.

Not unless LBJ wants to be the 3rd highest paid guy on that team and they fill out the other 9 roster spots with high school kids.

When Shaq won a ring without Kobe it was pure luck, just like Kobe NOT winning a ring since Shaq left was pure luck. The Lakers have made it to the final of the finals more times since Shaq left than he has. Rings don't matter, making it to the end of the finals and not winning is more impressive.

WTF is your message even supposed to mean? Winning in the NBA is all based on luck? Being a loser in the NBA finals is more impressive than winning it? You are leaving me all sorts of confused.

Shaq has another ring, Kobe doesn't. Kobe MIGHT get one this year, but as it stands he hasn't gotten one since Shaq left. Kobe fans seem to think it's more impressive that the Lakers have overall done better as a team, and making it to the finals over what Shaq has done - even though he has a ring. They're blind nutthuggers. One told me yesterday that Kobe is playing right now while Shaq is sitting at home. I guess the ring Shaq already has is nothing lol.

I think he was trying to be ironnickle, while failing to answer to the fact that Shaq piggy backed onto a very fortunate situation when he left the lakers. Wade carried the team (finals mvp), and they also had a future HOF center signing for virtually nothing, Alonzo Mourning, who kicked @ss on the defensive end in the finals and was a critical factor.

After Shaq, Kobe played only 1/2 season with another all-star (altho hardly an 'mvp-candidate' quality player like shaq rode in '06), and when he did he made it to the finals (pao gasol last year).

No no no. This is all 100% wrong. The NBA officials carried the team. Dwayne Wade was just the beneficiary of the officials. The 2006 NBA finals were an atrocity that I hope will never happen again in my life. End of Story.

The spurs really should have made it into the finals but Ginobili made a really stupid foul on Dirk when dunking, creating a 3pt play. That was probably the stupidest thing Ginobili has ever done in his career. Spurs would have beating the heat if they had advanced imo.

Kobe signed a contract. He should have been a man and dealt with it.

Kobe should have never trashed Bynum publicly like that.

All I am saying is that it is too early to judge the media-darling that is "King" James compared to other super-star divas. As of now, all this signs are pointing to him being the same or getting worse.

Not wanting to honor a the full term of a max contract while in a situation that has gone sour is overrated and overstated as a suggested 'lack of integrity'. Its part of professional sports/relationships. Let's not forget almost everyone says at some point 'til death do us part' and most bail on that commitment far earlier.

Not being willing to play for a team until a contract is renegotiated, now usually that's another story....
