You have to understand how media rights work in the ME.
When Arafat returned from Africa as part of Oslo 1, the very first thing he did, the very, very first thing he did....was take control over the media.
Between 1967-1980~~ journalists had a lot of freedom to travel to and from the West Bank and Gaza. Journalists, both Palestinian and Israeli, had no fear of being punished by Israel for leaking a humiliating story. Not to say various PLO groups didn't punish their own for daring to say naughty things to the Israeli press, but it was high priority to protect the rights of journalists or else it would be exploited by the UN/Europe to condemn Israel.
Now, when Arafat showed up and received his new bastardized PLO a.k.a PNA, he threw out all independent media. Any Israeli journalists stationed in the WB/Gaza were expelled to Israel. Palestinian freelancers who worked for Israeli newspapers were thrown out expelled. Foreign journalists who wouldn't sign up were thrown out and expelled. Those who remained were placed under the direction of PLO propagandists...were merged into newspapers like Al-Fajy, Palestine Telegraph, etc...
One famous journalists - Khaled Abu Toameh - was one of the original Palestinian journalists expelled from the West Bank after Arafat took over. He defected to the Jerusalem Post, where he writes stories describing the institutionalized corruption and cronysim that exists within the so-called "moderate" Fatah.
He has provided extensive testimony documenting the way media is controlled by the Palestinians. How freelancers from BBC, the Guardian, CNN, Fox News are almost always under the thumb of PLO.
In fact, most mainstream journalists live in Jerusalem, and export their stories to Palestinian freelancers. This is especially the case for Gaza, where BBC relies exclusively on Palestinians for stories.
And considering anyone who dares criticizes the leaders are punished and can be killed...we can assume most stories that are broadcast from so-called reputable sites are almost always 100% filtered through Pallywood script.
This is why BBC has not published a single critical piece of Hamas in Gaza. Only papers that dare to post fair and balanced coverage are Haaretz, Jerusalem Post, and Christian Science Monitor.
ALL BBC shows is bullshit "blockade" human interest stories. Oh noes..Gazans can't get canned fruit because Israel won't deliver it, even though Israel isn't under any legal or moral responsibility to a ship a single ounce of grain to Gaza.
There was a huge scandal 2 months ago about how Abbas cronies siphoned millions in USA-aid earmarked for promoting reform in the Palestinian government (oh the irony). Abbas then sent death squads to Palestinians who knew about the scandal, threatening their lives if they dared talk to the press.
Abbas even called Nateyanhu and asked him to shut down the media over the story...and he said even he wanted to, he had no authority to do so.
Not one foreign news published the story. Only Jerusalem Post.
There is something seriously fucked up about how Palestinians exploit reality, going so far as to exploit the effects of conflict, to demonize their enemy.
It seems the Palestinians value the opinions of BBC and the Guardian more than the lives of their own citizens.
Why else do they hide behind civilians, then showcase the after math...accusing Israel of deliberately killing children...when it was Hamas/Fatah that killed them.
This isn't unique to the Palestinians. Afghani and Iraqi insurgents do this shit all the time, but only Arab news bites.
Most western journalists won't dare collaborate with sources that accuse British or American soldiers of being inspired by racism, committing genocide, pillaging, deliberate acts of murder, etc.
But when it's Israel...oh, there are no standards.
