Only drink bottled water that you purchase in a reputable place.

i hear they have fake bottled water...where they just refill with tap and resell.

Yup, that's why I said a reputable place. You don't want to have stomach cramps and the inability to travel more than 10 minutes from a toilet

If you've not done it already, don't convert your money at the US airport.

Use the ATM in China, or use a money changer in the airport over there. I don't know if it's an honest trade in China, so calculate the conversion yourself and count the money at the window.

In Taiwan and Japan, it's always been fair for me. In Bali and Thailand, the money changers have never failed to make a "mistake" when they do the conversion.

Drink lots of water and try to sleep as much as possible on to plane to reduce jet-lag. It won't be so bad going there, but it might get you pretty hard when coming back to the States.

Working a full day before a 1am departure isn't so bad.

If you're flying out of LAX, bring suit cases that can be opened or they'll force you to stand in the bomb detection machine line. Leaving on a Tuesday isn't too bad, but expect to be in the baggage check line for over an hour.

Have fun.

great advice, thanks. we haven't exchanged money yet. we're flying out of SFO, and will have a transfer flight in Korea. Do they make you open the luggages in SFO?

oh yea, we'll be flying with Asiana, anybody know if you can plug in a laptop during the flight?
