Leaving the 1st PCI slot decreases noise!

I'm all about quiet cases. I have an Evercase with an Papst 12dba intake and a Papst 12dba exhaust, a 300w QuietPC PSU (less than 26 dba) and an alpha heatsink with a panaflo l1a. I have a p4 1.8A OCed to 2.23GHz (only have PC2100 Ram for now).

(I even had a papst on the heatsink, max temps was 54, a bit too high, but with a panaflo, the max is 44) Most people would say the case was quiet. To me it was a tad loud, the fan on my PNY GF3 was casuing all the noise. Once I left the 1st pci slot empty, the noise dropped by alot. I guess the fan was making a lot of noise blowing on the card just below it

sounds like a reasonable fix. As much as I like my GF3 card, it too makes a lot of noise for a videocard

..although, when I first read the title of the post, I thought you were recommending that people should remove the PCI SLOT COVERS on the back of the case.

This is usually not recommended, because it reduces the cooling efficency of the fans and it allows dust/debris to also enter the case which can interfere with the fan motors.

Zalman is coming out soon with a new copper heatsink with no fans needed...hopefully it can handle high end vid cards....
